Focus on Reforming Global Governance
During the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of reshaping global institutions to better reflect present-day geopolitical and economic realities. He emphasized that developing nations, often referred to as the Global South, should have a stronger voice in international decision-making processes.
The conversation also touched upon the UN’s ongoing reform efforts under the UN80 initiative, which aims to modernize the organization as it approaches its 80th anniversary. Jaishankar reiterated that inclusive and representative multilateralism is essential for addressing modern global challenges effectively.
Discussions on Sustainable Development and Technology

Earlier in the day, Annalena Baerbock paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, marking the symbolic start of her official engagements in India. Her visit, which began on Monday, comes at the invitation of the Indian government and reflects ongoing cooperation between India and the United Nations.
During her stay, Baerbock is also scheduled to interact with officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. These discussions are expected to focus on governance models for artificial intelligence and the broader digital landscape.
In addition, she is set to meet members of the United Nations team in India, led by Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner, to review ongoing development initiatives and collaborative programs.

The visit marks another high-level engagement between India and the United Nations in recent months. It follows the earlier trip by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who visited New Delhi in February to attend a global summit on artificial intelligence.

Her earlier visits to India, including one as Germany’s Foreign Minister, have contributed to strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties.
