In a statement shared after Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences, Rodriguez appreciated India’s readiness to assist relief operations. She said the Venezuelan government values the compassionate response from India as emergency teams continue rescue and recovery work in the affected regions.

Powerful Earthquakes Cause Heavy Damage

The twin earthquakes struck within seconds of each other, with a magnitude 7.2 tremor followed just 40 seconds later by a stronger 7.5 earthquake. The back-to-back shocks triggered extensive structural damage, leading to the collapse of several buildings and widespread destruction across multiple areas.

According to available reports, more than 30 people have lost their lives while hundreds have suffered injuries. Rescue officials continue to search damaged buildings, and authorities expect the number of casualties to increase as operations reach the worst-hit locations. The event has been described as Venezuela’s strongest earthquake in more than a century.
