The Missionaries of Charity became the first destination on Rubio’s India itinerary. Accompanied by his wife, Jeanette D Rubio, the US Secretary of State visited Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, a children’s care institution operated by the religious congregation founded by Mother Teresa in 1950.
The facility is known for supporting vulnerable children and providing shelter, healthcare, and educational assistance through its network of specialized homes. Rubio also spent time at the Mother House in central Kolkata, which serves as the international headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity.
