Conflict – Iran Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal Amid Rising Tensions
Conflict – Iran has turned down a proposal from the United States seeking a temporary 48-hour ceasefire, according to a report published by the semi-official Fars news agency on Friday.

Ceasefire Proposal Delivered Through Intermediary
The report stated that the proposal was conveyed to Tehran through a country described as “friendly,” with the message delivered on Thursday. Sources cited by Fars indicated that the offer came at a time when diplomatic activity from Washington had intensified, particularly following recent military developments in the region.
The United States is believed to be exploring options to de-escalate tensions after an Iranian strike reportedly targeted a facility linked to US forces on Kuwait’s Bubiyan Island. The move has added urgency to ongoing diplomatic outreach.
Rising Pressure After Military Escalation
According to the same report, the ceasefire suggestion emerged as the situation on the ground grew more volatile. Analysts quoted by Fars suggested that the proposal may reflect mounting challenges faced by US forces, which they attributed to an underestimation of Iran’s military strength.
Iran did not issue a formal written response to the proposal. Instead, its position was conveyed through continued military actions, signaling that Tehran is not currently inclined to pause hostilities under the terms offered.
Claims of Downed US Aircraft
In a separate development, Iran’s military announced that its air defence systems had shot down a US A-10 attack aircraft over waters near the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft reportedly crashed into the Persian Gulf.
This claim followed an earlier statement from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which said it had downed a US F-35 fighter jet within central Iranian airspace on the same day. These claims have not been independently verified.
Later reports from Iran’s Mehr News Agency added that a US Black Hawk helicopter was also struck while conducting a search operation for the pilot of the alleged downed fighter jet. The helicopter was reportedly hit by a projectile during the mission.
Local Authorities Call for Civilian Assistance
Amid the ongoing developments, local officials have taken steps to involve residents in certain areas. Yadollah Rahmani, the governor of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, urged people living in tribal and rural regions to assist authorities in locating what he described as “enemy pilots.”
Such appeals highlight the broader impact of the conflict on civilian populations, particularly in regions closer to reported military activity.
Background of the Escalating Conflict
The current situation follows a major escalation that began on February 28, when Israel and the United States carried out coordinated strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities. The attacks resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader at the time, Ali Khamenei, along with senior military officials and civilians.
In response, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli positions and US-linked assets across the Middle East. These retaliatory strikes marked a significant turning point, pushing the region into a period of heightened instability.
Uncertain Path Ahead
With both sides continuing military operations and diplomatic efforts failing to produce immediate results, the possibility of further escalation remains high. The rejection of the ceasefire proposal suggests that negotiations may face significant hurdles in the near term.
Observers note that while backchannel communications continue, the situation on the ground will likely play a decisive role in shaping the next phase of the conflict.
