BlackSeaConflict – Civilian Cargo Vessels Damaged in Fresh Russian Drone Assault
BlackSeaConflict – A new wave of Russian drone attacks in the Black Sea has struck two civilian cargo vessels, leaving one crew member dead and five others injured, according to Ukrainian officials. The incidents occurred late Thursday and have renewed concerns about the safety of commercial shipping routes in the region amid the ongoing conflict.

Civilian Ships Targeted During Nighttime Attack
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba reported that one of the drones hit a cargo ship registered under the Panamanian flag. The attack resulted in the death of a crew member, while two additional sailors sustained injuries. In a separate strike, another drone damaged a vessel sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, leaving three people wounded.
The attacks mark another serious incident involving civilian maritime transport operating in the Black Sea, an area that remains strategically important for international trade and agricultural exports.
Ukraine Condemns Threats to Shipping Routes
Following the attacks, Kuleba accused Russia of undermining freedom of navigation and disrupting international commerce. He said the latest strikes demonstrate continued pressure on maritime activities that are vital to global supply chains and food distribution networks.
Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly argued that attacks on commercial vessels create risks not only for regional security but also for countries that depend on exports moving through Black Sea shipping corridors.
Ships Continue Their Voyages After Damage
Despite sustaining damage during the drone strikes, both vessels were able to continue their planned journeys. Officials in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region confirmed that the ships resumed operations after the incidents.
The Black Sea remains one of the most significant transport routes for grain and other commodities exported from Ukraine. Any disruption to shipping traffic has the potential to affect international markets and trade flows.
Additional Casualties Reported Across Ukraine
The violence extended beyond the maritime attacks. On Friday morning, Russian strikes reportedly hit other parts of Ukraine, causing civilian casualties. In the city of Pavlograd, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, an eight-year-old girl was killed during an attack, regional authorities said.
Emergency services and local officials continue to assess the impact of the strikes as rescue and recovery efforts remain underway in affected areas.
Injuries Recorded in Kharkiv Region
Further east, authorities in the Kharkiv region reported that ten people were injured as a result of Russian attacks. Among those wounded were four children, according to Ukraine’s emergency response service.
The latest incidents add to a growing list of civilian casualties reported since the conflict began. Ukrainian officials say residential areas, infrastructure, and transport networks have frequently come under attack during the war.
Ongoing Dispute Over Maritime Operations
Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion, shipping activity linked to Ukrainian ports has remained a point of tension. Kyiv has repeatedly accused Moscow of attempting to weaken Ukraine’s economy through attacks on infrastructure and commercial transportation.
Russia has consistently denied intentionally targeting civilians. However, Moscow has previously stated that vessels heading toward Ukrainian ports could be considered potential carriers of military supplies, a position that has heightened concerns among international shipping operators and maritime security experts.
The latest drone strikes are likely to increase scrutiny of safety conditions in the Black Sea as commercial vessels continue to navigate one of the world’s most sensitive conflict zones.
