IndianCinema – Ram Charan, one of the leading stars of Indian cinema, has shared his perspective on working across different film industries, emphasizing that he does not view projects through the lens of language. Instead, the actor believes that every film he takes up is part of a larger Indian cinematic landscape rather than being categorized as Hindi or Telugu cinema.
The actor first stepped into the Hindi film space in 2013 with the remake of the classic film Zanjeer. More recently, he made a special appearance in the song Yentamma from the 2023 release Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Despite these ventures, Ram Charan says he prefers not to draw distinctions between regional and Hindi-language productions.
Focus on Indian Cinema as a Whole
During a recent interaction, Ram Charan addressed questions about when audiences could expect to see him in another Hindi-language project. Responding to the curiosity surrounding his future plans, the actor explained that he does not separate films based on language. According to him, cinema should be viewed as a collective national industry rather than divided into individual segments.
His comments reflect the growing trend of collaboration among filmmakers and actors from different regions, a movement that has gained significant momentum in recent years. With audiences increasingly embracing stories from across the country, language barriers in Indian entertainment continue to diminish.
Interest in Collaborating With Filmmakers Nationwide
Ram Charan also expressed his enthusiasm for working with directors from various parts of India. He stated that he is open to collaborating with filmmakers from Mumbai, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and other regions. The actor indicated that creative partnerships matter more to him than the language in which a film is produced.
This outlook aligns with the changing dynamics of the Indian film industry, where artists frequently cross regional boundaries to work on projects with diverse creative teams. Such collaborations have helped broaden the reach of Indian films both domestically and internationally.
Early Bollywood Venture and Musical Debut
The actor’s first major Hindi film appearance came through the bilingual Telugu-Hindi version of Zanjeer, where he portrayed police officer ACP Vijay Khanna. The story revolved around a determined officer seeking justice for the murder of his parents.
The project was notable for another reason as well. In the Telugu adaptation, titled Thoofan, Ram Charan explored a new aspect of his career by making his debut as a playback singer. He lent his voice to the track Mumbai Ke Hero, which was composed by Chirantan Bhatt and became a memorable addition to the film’s soundtrack.
Legacy of the Original Zanjeer
The original Zanjeer, released in 1973 and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Prakash Mehra, remains one of the most influential films in Indian cinema. The movie featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan, Om Prakash, and Bindu.
The film marked the beginning of a highly successful creative partnership between screenwriting duo Salim–Javed and Amitabh Bachchan. Their collaboration later produced several landmark films, including Deewaar and Sholay, which went on to become enduring classics.
Even decades after its release, Zanjeer continues to hold a special place in cinematic history and is widely regarded as a defining work that shaped modern Indian storytelling on screen.
