Guidebook Designed to Address Key Export Challenges

The Ministry of Commerce said the newly released guidebook has been developed to tackle several common obstacles that often prevent MSMEs from expanding beyond domestic markets. Many smaller businesses struggle to obtain reliable market information, connect with international buyers, understand certification requirements, and remain competitive on pricing. The publication has been created to provide practical solutions to these issues, making the export process more accessible for businesses with limited resources and experience.

Joint Initiative Focuses on Practical Business Support

The guidebook has been prepared by the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). According to the ministry, the publication presents a step-by-step framework that simplifies market assessment, explains international standards and certification procedures, and offers guidance on identifying suitable overseas buyers. It also highlights dependable and freely available digital tools that can reduce the cost and effort involved in export market research.

Officials stated that the publication is intended to help MSMEs make better-informed commercial decisions while strengthening their ability to participate successfully in international trade.

Experts Discuss Opportunities Under Trade Agreements

Following the launch, industry experts and policymakers participated in a panel discussion focusing on ways Indian MSMEs can expand their presence in overseas markets. One of the major themes of the discussion was the effective use of preferential Rules of Origin and cooperation mechanisms available through India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

The panel explored how businesses can benefit from existing trade arrangements by selecting suitable export destinations and understanding the conditions required to access those markets. Participants also discussed the importance of meeting international product standards, obtaining relevant certifications, and adapting products to match changing global demand.

Strengthening Competitiveness Through Collaboration

Speakers highlighted that long-term success in exports depends not only on product quality but also on collaboration among businesses and stronger institutional support. They encouraged MSMEs to consider partnerships, joint ventures, and participation in trade fairs and international exhibitions as ways to build credibility and expand their business networks.

The discussion also emphasized diversification, value addition, and the effective use of the resources included in the newly launched guidebook. According to the participants, these measures can help Indian MSMEs become part of global value chains while improving their competitiveness in international markets.

Stakeholders Exchange Practical Insights

The event brought together government officials, trade specialists, industry representatives, and stakeholders from the MSME sector to exchange ideas on strengthening the global position of Indian enterprises. Discussions focused on practical approaches to improving export readiness, increasing compliance with international regulations, and enhancing market access for small businesses.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to seek guidance directly from policymakers and industry experts. The exchange covered real-world issues related to export preparation, certification requirements, regulatory compliance, and strategies for entering international markets, providing attendees with practical knowledge to support future export initiatives.
