Security – Man Held in Gujarat for Threatening Bihar Chief Minister
Security – A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody in Gujarat for allegedly issuing a death threat to Bihar’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary. According to police officials, the accused made a phone call to the chief minister’s official residence and threatened his life, prompting an immediate security response.

Arrest Following Coordinated Police Action
The accused, identified as Shekhar Yadav, is originally from Bihar’s Banka district but was residing in Gujarat at the time of the incident. Investigators said that once the threatening call was reported, authorities in Bihar registered a case at the Sangrampur police station in Munger district and began tracing the origin of the call.
With assistance from Gujarat Police, the caller’s location was tracked to Sanand, a town near Ahmedabad. Acting on this information, local police detained Yadav on Friday. Officials confirmed that he was employed at a private firm in Gujarat before his arrest.
Transfer to Bihar for Further Investigation
After his arrest, Gujarat Police handed over custody of the accused to Bihar Police. He is currently being transported back to Bihar under a transit remand. Authorities plan to conduct a detailed interrogation upon his arrival to determine the exact motive behind the threat.
A senior officer from the state police headquarters stated that the reasons behind the call are still unclear. “We will question him thoroughly once he is brought here. Only then will we be able to establish what led to this incident,” the officer said.
Background of the Chief Minister and Location Link
Samrat Choudhary, who recently assumed office as Bihar’s chief minister, represents the Tarapur constituency in Munger district. The threat has drawn attention due to its timing, coming shortly after he took oath earlier this month.
Officials emphasized that any threat to a constitutional authority is treated with utmost seriousness, particularly in the early days of a new administration. Security agencies have also reviewed existing arrangements following the incident.
Security Arrangements Under Special Law
The chief minister’s protection falls under the Bihar Special Security Force Act, 2000. This framework is designed to provide high-level security, similar in structure to the Special Protection Group system used for the Prime Minister.
The Special Security Group responsible for safeguarding the chief minister consists of more than 200 highly trained personnel. These commandos are drawn from various elite forces, including state police units and central agencies such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Reserve Police Force, National Security Guard, and others.
Ongoing Inquiry and Precautionary Measures
While the accused is now in custody, authorities continue to assess whether the threat was an isolated act or part of a larger concern. Officials have not ruled out any angle at this stage.
Security checks have been intensified around the chief minister’s residence and key government locations as a precautionary measure. Police have also urged the public to report suspicious activity promptly to ensure swift action in similar cases.
The investigation is expected to provide more clarity in the coming days as questioning progresses and digital evidence is examined.
