Samastipur – Two Men Shot Dead in Late-Night Firing at Namapur Village
Samastipur – Two men were shot dead after unidentified attackers opened fire in Bihar’s Samastipur district late Tuesday night, police said. The incident occurred in Namapur village, which falls under the Chakmehsi police station area, and caused alarm among residents after gunshots were heard in the locality.

Victims Identified by Police
The victims were identified as Prabhat Chaudhary of Nima Chakhaidar village and Sunny Kumar of Belsandi village. Both villages are within the Chakmehsi police station jurisdiction.
Police said the two men were standing in a relatively isolated area of Namapur when they were attacked. Initial accounts suggest that a group of around eight to ten people arrived on motorcycles and fired several rounds before escaping from the spot.
Both victims suffered multiple gunshot injuries and were declared dead at the scene. Residents reportedly rushed towards the area after hearing the firing, but the attackers had already fled in the darkness.
Police Begin Search for Attackers
A police team reached the village after receiving information about the shooting. The bodies were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examinations.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from Namapur and nearby roads to identify the vehicles and people involved. Police are also gathering technical and forensic evidence from the crime scene as part of the inquiry.
Officials said no arrests had been made till the latest update. Search operations and raids may be carried out after investigators develop further leads.
Possible Links Under Examination
Police said Prabhat Chaudhary had faced several criminal cases in the past, including allegations connected to illegal liquor transportation and provisions of the Arms Act.
Investigators are examining whether the shooting could be linked to financial disputes related to the illegal liquor trade or rivalry among local groups. However, officers have not confirmed any motive and said the investigation remains open to all possibilities.
Family Alleges Planned Attack
Prabhat’s father, Sanjay Chaudhary, alleged that his son had been called out of the house shortly before the shooting. According to him, the killing was part of a planned conspiracy.
The family said Prabhat left home at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Relatives initially believed he had gone out for regular work, but later received information that he had been shot dead in Namapur village.
Sanjay Chaudhary also referred to an earlier attack on Prabhat in 2023, when he was allegedly targeted inside court premises. He said his son had survived that incident, and disciplinary action had reportedly been taken against two police personnel in connection with the matter.
Investigation Continues
Police officials said the current priority is to establish the sequence of events, identify the assailants and determine whether the victims were specifically targeted. Statements from local residents, phone records and surveillance footage are expected to play an important role in the investigation.
The double murder has raised concerns in the area, with residents seeking swift action against those responsible. Police said further details would be shared once evidence is verified and suspects are identified.
