RoadSafety – A dumper truck driver was killed and his helper suffered serious injuries after a road accident near Barsoni Toll Plaza in Bihar’s Purnea district late Tuesday night. The collision occurred within the limits of Dagarua Police Station and prompted demands for compensation from fellow truck drivers following the driver’s death.

Collision Occurred During Return Journey
According to police officials and statements from the injured helper, the dumper vehicle had delivered a load of stone chips from Pakur district in Jharkhand to an airport construction project in Purnea. After unloading the material, the truck was heading back toward Pakur when the accident took place near the toll plaza.
The helper, identified as Usman Sheikh, told authorities that a container truck travelling at high speed allegedly struck the dumper from behind. The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, crushing the front cabin and trapping both occupants inside.
Rescue Operation Launched at Accident Site
Local residents rushed to the scene after the crash and joined police personnel in rescue efforts. The trapped driver and helper were eventually pulled from the damaged vehicle and transported to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Purnea for emergency medical treatment.
Doctors at the hospital later declared the driver dead while treatment was underway. The incident has added to concerns regarding road safety on busy freight transport routes that connect Bihar and Jharkhand.
Victim Identified, Helper Stable
Authorities identified the deceased driver as Mukaddar Hussain, son of Aki Sheikh, and a resident of Ajna village in Jharkhand’s Pakur district. His death has left family members and colleagues grieving the loss.
Meanwhile, the injured helper, Usman Sheikh, who belongs to Ramchandrapur village in Pakur district, remains under medical supervision. Hospital sources indicated that his condition is stable and he is currently out of danger.
Truck Drivers Demand Support for Family
News of the driver’s death quickly spread among members of the transport community. A large number of truck drivers and local residents gathered at the hospital premises to express their condolences and stand in solidarity with the victim’s family.
Several drivers urged district authorities to provide financial assistance and compensation to the deceased driver’s dependents. They said the family should receive adequate support in light of the tragedy and called for measures aimed at improving road safety for commercial vehicle operators.
Police Begin Detailed Investigation
Following the accident, officers from Dagarua Police Station reached the hospital and completed the necessary legal procedures. An inquest was conducted, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators have started examining evidence related to the collision, including witness accounts and other available information. Police are working to determine the precise circumstances that led to the crash and whether negligence played a role.
Officials confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant provisions related to rash and negligent driving against the container truck driver allegedly involved in the incident. Efforts are currently underway to locate and arrest the accused driver as the investigation progresses.
