Politics – Women’s Empowerment Drive Gains Momentum with Nationwide Run Events
Politics – Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday joined a major public outreach programme in Patna as part of the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan, an initiative aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in nation-building. The event highlighted the government’s continued push towards women-led development and active citizen engagement in the broader vision of a developed India.

Focus on Women-Led Development
Addressing attendees and interacting with participants, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of empowering women across sectors. The campaign is designed to create awareness about women’s growing role in governance, leadership, and public life. As part of the programme, he also flagged off a special run titled ‘Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat’, symbolising collective progress driven by women’s participation.
The initiative reflects a larger policy direction that seeks to integrate women more deeply into decision-making processes, both at grassroots and national levels. Officials noted that such programmes are meant to inspire communities and strengthen inclusivity in governance.
Context of Parliamentary Discussions
The timing of the campaign coincides with the ongoing special session of Parliament scheduled from April 16 to April 18. During this session, key issues related to women’s representation and constituency delimitation are expected to be discussed. The run and associated events aim to build public awareness around these critical topics and encourage broader engagement.
Leaders Call It a Historic Moment
During the event, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shreyasi Singh described the occasion as significant, pointing to recent developments related to women’s political representation. She welcomed the progress made on the Women’s Reservation Bill and acknowledged the role of the central leadership in advancing the initiative.
According to Singh, the increasing visibility of women in political activities—from grassroots campaigning to organisational roles—marks a shift in the country’s democratic landscape. She expressed optimism that enhanced representation would further strengthen governance and policy-making.
Nationwide Participation Across Cities
The Nari Shakti Vandan Run is being conducted across several major cities as part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The campaign spans multiple urban centres, including Patna, Jaipur, Delhi, Cuttack, Mumbai, Indore, and Bengaluru.
While events in Patna and Jaipur were held on April 17, the remaining cities are scheduled to host the run on April 18. Each run covers a distance of approximately two to three kilometres and takes place at prominent public venues, making it accessible to a wide audience.
Encouraging Diverse Participation
Organisers have focused on ensuring participation from women across different backgrounds. Students, working professionals, entrepreneurs, athletes, and members of civil society have been actively encouraged to join the initiative. The effort is supported by various organisations, including MY Bharat, the National Service Scheme, and the Sports Authority of India.
Participants completing the run are being recognised with certificates, reinforcing the message of collective contribution and civic involvement. Officials stated that such initiatives are not only symbolic but also serve as a platform for dialogue and awareness.
Building Awareness for Inclusive Governance
The campaign ultimately seeks to deepen public understanding of the importance of women’s representation in democratic institutions. By combining physical events with policy discussions, the initiative aims to connect citizens with ongoing national conversations about equality and inclusion.
As the programme continues across cities, it is expected to draw significant participation and further highlight the role of women in shaping the country’s future. The emphasis remains on fostering a more inclusive environment where women can actively contribute to governance and societal development.
