Crime – Tejashwi Yadav Questions Bihar Government Over Municipal Officer Murder Probe
Crime – Bihar Leader of the Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday strongly criticized the state government, alleging that it has failed to tackle increasing crime across the state. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, he also questioned the ongoing police investigation into the murder of Vimal Kumari, the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council in Dehri, Rohtas district. He argued that the inquiry should be widened and insisted that every individual responsible for the crime must face the toughest legal punishment.
Opposition Raises Questions Over Investigation
Tejashwi Yadav said he met the deceased officer’s family on Sunday and described the incident as both tragic and alarming. According to him, the current investigation appears to be concentrating mainly on the victim’s driver, while the family has reportedly pointed to the possible involvement of other individuals. He maintained that investigators should carefully examine every lead instead of narrowing the scope of the probe at an early stage.
The RJD leader also claimed that the driver had allegedly changed his version of events several times, raising further questions about the investigation. He additionally asked why the weapon believed to have been used in the murder had not yet been recovered, stating that such unanswered issues deserved greater attention from the authorities.
Allegations Regarding Political Angle
During the media interaction, Tejashwi referred to allegations reportedly made by the victim’s family involving NDA/LJP-RV MLA Sonu Singh. He claimed that the family had raised concerns about an alleged conspiracy and also mentioned claims that money had allegedly been demanded. He questioned why investigators were not examining these allegations with equal seriousness.
Tejashwi further argued that if work-related pressure was being presented as a possible reason behind the crime, it should never be accepted as justification for such an act. He warned that accepting such reasoning could send a harmful message and undermine public confidence in governance and law enforcement.
Demand for a Wider Probe
The former Deputy Chief Minister also questioned the alleged association between Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav and MLA Sonu Singh, referring to their appearances together at public events. He stressed that investigators should examine every possible aspect of the case without limiting the inquiry to a single suspect or theory.
He accused the Bihar government of protecting influential people in several cases and questioned whether equal standards were being applied during criminal investigations. According to Tejashwi, a fair and transparent investigation is necessary to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
Government Urged to Support Victim’s Family
Tejashwi also criticized the priorities of the state leadership, alleging that the Chief Minister had attended public programmes but had not visited the family of the slain municipal officer. He urged the government to provide adequate security to the bereaved family and demanded that one of the victim’s family members be offered a government job as financial support.
He also claimed that this was the second case involving the killing of a government official since Samrat Choudhary assumed office as Bihar Chief Minister, describing it as a matter of serious concern for public administration.
Remarks on Bankipur By-Election and State Politics
Commenting on the Bankipur Assembly by-election, Tejashwi said the Rashtriya Janata Dal accepted the verdict delivered by the electorate while respecting the democratic process. However, he argued that the outcome also reflected public dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He further stated that although electoral contests produce varying results, the RJD had secured success in the recent MLC election, while he claimed the BJP had faced setbacks in multiple political contests. Targeting Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Tejashwi described his performance as disappointing and challenged the state government to identify a significant achievement completed during the Chief Minister’s first 100 days in office.
