Crime – Five Arrested Within a Day After Belaganj Assault Case
Crime – Police in Bihar’s Gaya district have taken swift action in a serious criminal case reported from Belaganj, where five individuals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a gangrape. Officials confirmed on Monday that the arrests were made within 24 hours of the incident being reported.
Immediate Police Response and Case Registration
According to Superintendent of Police Kota Kiran Kumar, the matter came to light late on the night of May 1, when Belaganj Police Station received information about a sexual assault involving multiple perpetrators. Acting promptly, local officers verified the details and alerted senior officials. A police team, led by the Station House Officer, reached the location to secure the area and begin initial inquiries.
The victim was provided medical assistance without delay, and her statement was recorded in detail. Based on her account, a formal case was registered. The Forensic Science Laboratory team was also called in to collect evidence from the scene and assist in the investigation.
Special Team Formed to Track Suspects
Recognising the gravity of the crime, the district police constituted a Special Investigation Team to handle the case. The team operated under the supervision of a Sub-Divisional Police Officer and included officers from the Belaganj police station along with members of the district’s technical unit.
The investigation relied on a combination of technical surveillance and field-level intelligence gathering. Suspects were identified based on information provided by the victim and further corroborated through electronic evidence and questioning.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident occurred after the victim accidentally got off a train near Nematpur, mistaking it for her intended stop. Three of the accused were reportedly on the same train and had boarded it from Belaganj.
Authorities said the train halted unexpectedly after the emergency chain was pulled before reaching the station. The victim disembarked, believing she had arrived at her destination. It was at this point that the accused allegedly approached her, engaged her in conversation, and led her away from the railway track to a secluded location.
Subsequently, two more individuals were called to the spot, and the assault took place. The police have indicated that all five men were involved in the crime.
Background of Accused and Ongoing Probe
The accused include four residents of Belaganj and one from Jehanabad. Investigators have seized mobile phones believed to have been used during the incident. Initial checks indicate that the individuals have prior criminal records, which are currently under further examination.
Officials have clarified that there appears to be no previous connection between the victim and the accused. The case was first reported to the police by the victim’s family members, following which authorities initiated immediate action.
The victim has not reported any threats so far and is said to be cooperating with the investigation. Her medical examination has been conducted, and reports are awaited. Police have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that all necessary legal steps will be taken.
