Security –Authorities in Delhi have intensified security measures after a bomb threat targeting the Red Fort was received just days before the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
Delhi’s security agencies launched an extensive search operation around the Red Fort on Monday after an email sent to the office of the city’s Mayor warned of multiple bomb blasts at the historic monument on August 15. The alert prompted an immediate response from law enforcement and emergency teams as preparations for the national event continue.
Security Teams Conduct Comprehensive Search
According to officials, the Mayor’s office informed the Delhi Police and other security agencies as soon as the threatening email was received. In response, police personnel, bomb disposal experts, and specialised security units reached the Red Fort without delay to inspect the entire premises.
The monument and surrounding areas underwent a detailed sanitisation and security check to ensure there was no immediate threat. Authorities maintained heightened vigilance throughout the operation while standard security protocols were put into effect.
Investigation Underway to Trace Email Source
Police sources said that security arrangements around the Red Fort have been further strengthened following the latest threat. Investigators have also opened an inquiry to identify the individual responsible for sending the email and determine its origin.
Officials are examining digital evidence and other technical details as part of the investigation. No suspicious object or explosive material had been reported during the search operation at the time of the official update.
Previous Threat Triggered Similar Response
This is not the first security alert involving the Red Fort in recent weeks. On July 11, authorities carried out a large-scale search after receiving another threat concerning the monument.
According to Delhi Police, that earlier warning was linked to a phone call made to the Mumbai Police Control Room. The caller allegedly claimed that the Red Fort would be targeted with explosives. Mumbai Police immediately shared the information with Delhi Police, leading to a coordinated security operation by officers in the national capital.
Following a thorough inspection of the monument and nearby areas, security teams concluded that no explosives or suspicious materials were present. The incident was later confirmed to be a hoax.
Independence Day Preparations Continue
The latest security alert comes as Delhi prepares for the country’s 80th Independence Day celebrations. The Red Fort remains the focal point of the annual national event, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver his address to the nation from the historic monument’s ramparts on August 15.
Given the significance of the venue, security agencies routinely maintain strict surveillance and carry out extensive checks before the Independence Day ceremony. The fresh threat has added another layer of caution, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation closely.
Government Invites Public Suggestions
Meanwhile, the central government has invited citizens to contribute ideas and policy suggestions for the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech. Members of the public can submit their recommendations through the MyGov portal, with the submission window remaining open until August 12.
Officials have encouraged wider public participation, stating that the initiative allows citizens to share their views on issues they believe should be reflected in the Prime Minister’s annual address.
