Kolkata – Unidentified Man Found Dead Near New Town Food Stall, Probe Underway
Kolkata –An unidentified man was found dead outside a roadside food stall in Kolkata’s New Town area on Wednesday morning, prompting police to launch an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The body was discovered outside a well-known roadside food stall located near Ram Mandir in the New Town locality on the northern outskirts of Kolkata. According to police, the stall owner arrived early in the morning to open the shop and noticed a man lying motionless on the ground. Believing he might have been unconscious, the shopkeeper and several nearby vendors tried to wake him, but he did not respond. They immediately alerted the police.
Police Reach Spot and Begin Investigation
A team from the Eco Park Police Station reached the location shortly after receiving the information. Officers secured the area, recovered the body, and sent it for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police confirmed that the deceased has not yet been identified, and efforts are underway to establish his identity.
Officials said the postmortem report will be crucial in clarifying whether the death resulted from natural causes, an accident, or any other circumstances requiring further criminal investigation.
Injury Marks Reported by Residents
Several local residents claimed they noticed injury marks on the man’s forehead while the body was at the scene. However, investigators have not drawn any conclusions regarding those injuries. Police said it remains possible that the marks could have been caused by an accidental fall, and all possibilities are being examined until forensic findings become available.
Authorities have urged people not to speculate about the circumstances of the death until the medical examination and investigation are completed.
CCTV Footage Under Examination
A senior officer of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate said an unnatural death case has been registered in accordance with legal procedures. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage collected from nearby locations to understand how the deceased reached the area and to determine whether the body was moved before being found.
Police are also examining the man’s movements in the hours leading up to the incident. Surveillance footage and other available evidence are expected to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events.
Identification Efforts Continue
To establish the identity of the deceased, police have started coordinating with other police stations across the region. Officers are checking records of missing persons and sharing available information with neighboring jurisdictions in an effort to identify the man and contact his family.
Investigators said the identification process remains a priority, as it could provide important leads regarding the circumstances leading to his death.
Incident Raises Local Concerns
The discovery has caused concern among residents and business owners in the New Town area. Many gathered near the scene after police arrived, while authorities requested the public to avoid spreading unverified information until the investigation reaches a clearer conclusion.
The incident comes only a few days after another body was recovered in Kolkata’s Dum Dum Park area on July 23. That case had also drawn public attention and prompted discussions about safety and security in the locality. Police have not indicated any connection between the two incidents, and the investigation into the New Town case is continuing independently.
