Diaspora – KTR Honours Uday Nagaraju for Historic Entry Into UK House of Lords
Diaspora –Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao attended a special felicitation ceremony in New Delhi to honour Uday Nagaraju, a prominent member of the Telangana-origin Indian diaspora who has become the first Telugu individual to be appointed to the UK House of Lords.
The event brought together political leaders from multiple states, along with representatives from several major political parties across the country. During the ceremony, KTR presented Uday Nagaraju with a traditional ceremonial shawl and a handcrafted Karimnagar filigree memento as a mark of appreciation for his achievement. He also extended his congratulations and wished him success in his new public role.
Recognition for Strengthening India-UK Relations
Addressing the gathering, KTR highlighted Uday Nagaraju’s efforts over the last two decades in promoting stronger engagement between India and the United Kingdom. He said Uday had consistently contributed to building closer cooperation across areas such as public affairs, business, and community engagement.
According to KTR, Uday’s progression from grassroots political participation in the United Kingdom to becoming a member of the House of Lords reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to public service. He described the achievement as an important milestone for the Telugu community as well as for the wider Indian diaspora.

KTR noted that Uday Nagaraju’s journey serves as an encouraging example for young people, particularly those of Indian origin living abroad. During his address, Uday Nagaraju shared that the Telangana statehood movement led by K. Chandrashekar Rao had left a lasting impression on him. He also spoke about KTR’s decision to return to India after completing higher education in the United States instead of pursuing an international career, choosing public service and political work instead.
Uday said KTR’s journey from serving as an ordinary party worker to becoming a state minister and a nationally recognised political leader demonstrated the value of dedication and public commitment. He added that this path had strengthened his own belief that educated individuals entering public life can make a meaningful contribution to society.
Discussions on Development and Economic Cooperation
Recalling his interactions with KTR during visits to both the United Kingdom and India, Uday Nagaraju said their discussions frequently focused on business, investment, trade, and contemporary political developments. He described those exchanges as valuable and said KTR’s perspective on economic development had been a source of encouragement.
He also thanked KTR for travelling to New Delhi to participate in the felicitation ceremony and for personally conveying his best wishes on the occasion.

Those attending included BRS Parliamentary Party Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Rajya Sabha MP Damodar Rao, former minister and MLA Jagadish Reddy, senior party leader Johnson Naik, and other party representatives.
