NEET – Government Pushes for Parliamentary Dialogue on Exam Reform Debate

NEET – The Union Government has reiterated that concerns surrounding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak should be addressed through dialogue and parliamentary discussion, while maintaining that protecting students’ interests remains its highest priority. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav said the Centre is committed to strengthening the examination process and ensuring a more transparent and reliable system for future candidates.

Government Calls for Constructive Discussion

Speaking on Friday, Yadav stressed that education, the future of students, and the contribution of young people to the country’s progress are matters of collective responsibility. He said differences over the examination issue should be settled through meaningful discussions instead of confrontation.

According to the minister, Parliament provides the most appropriate democratic platform to debate such matters. He expressed confidence that a detailed discussion in the House could help shape an effective roadmap for creating a stronger, more accountable, and student-friendly examination framework.

Opposition Accused of Avoiding Parliamentary Debate

Yadav also criticised the Opposition for disrupting parliamentary proceedings instead of participating in discussions on the issue. He alleged that political parties were attempting to gain short-term political advantage from the controversy rather than contributing to a practical solution.

The minister noted that concerns related to the examination system could have been formally raised during meetings of the Business Advisory Committee, where parliamentary business is scheduled. He said such a process would have enabled both sides to agree on an appropriate time for debate instead of allowing tensions to escalate before discussions could begin.

Focus on Strengthening Examination System

The Union Minister said the government is working with determination to improve the country’s examination process and address concerns that have emerged following allegations linked to the NEET-UG 2026 examination. He added that reforms would be pursued with a constructive approach aimed at protecting students and increasing confidence in competitive examinations.

His remarks come at a time when the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination continue to dominate political and public discourse across the country.

Protests Continue Over NEET-UG Controversy

The NEET-UG 2026 issue has triggered widespread protests, with Opposition parties demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They have also called for a detailed discussion in Parliament regarding the alleged paper leak and the government’s handling of the matter.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced that its protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Pradhan steps down. The demonstration has remained active despite activist Sonam Wangchuk ending his 26-day hunger strike after receiving written assurances from the Union Government regarding examination-related reforms and action on the issues raised during the protest.

Congress Intensifies Pressure on the Centre

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address Parliament directly on the controversy. He has also demanded the removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and an apology to students affected by the developments.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has similarly criticised the government’s response to student protests. She alleged that peaceful demonstrators were subjected to excessive police action and called on the Centre to end the crackdown while opening discussions with those raising concerns over the examination process.

CJP Delegation Scheduled to Meet Union Ministers

Amid the ongoing political debate, representatives of the CJP are expected to meet Union Ministers at the Constitution Club of India to discuss the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and possible reforms aimed at improving the credibility of India’s examination system.
