ProtestMovement –Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday as protests continued to gain momentum, turning the designated protest site and nearby roads into a densely packed assembly. By early afternoon, access to the venue had become extremely difficult because of the overwhelming number of participants. What began as a controlled gathering expanded well beyond the barricaded area, reflecting growing public participation and sustained support for the movement.
Protest Site Sees Sharp Rise in Attendance
The turnout increased significantly just two days after the reported police lathi charge, with supporters arriving steadily throughout the day. Protesters occupied not only the main venue but also surrounding roads, creating heavy congestion around the area. Many participants carried fresh banners and placards, while others said they had joined the demonstration in response to recent developments. The atmosphere remained energetic as the crowd continued to grow with each passing hour.
Police Appeals Fail to Limit Gathering
Delhi Police repeatedly used public address systems to request that demonstrators remain inside the designated protest zone. Despite these announcements, the gathering gradually spread across adjoining roads, extending from Sansad Marg towards the Outer Circle of Connaught Place. Authorities continued to monitor the situation while urging people to maintain order and cooperate with security arrangements.
Messages of Support Visible Across the Venue
The protest site displayed a wide range of handwritten messages, banners and wall paintings expressing different political viewpoints. Several slogans criticised the government, while others thanked opposition leaders for extending support to the movement. Among those participating was an elderly couple carrying a large placard expressing appreciation for the Citizens Justice Platform (CJP) and young supporters, particularly members of Generation Z, for encouraging what they described as a nationwide movement for change.
Elevated Spots Become Viewing Points
As the gathering expanded, supporters searched for higher positions to observe the crowd. A raised platform became a popular viewpoint, with people standing beside loudspeakers or looking across the venue from elevated positions. Some walls nearby displayed messages including “Vande Mataram” and references to the “Gen-Z Revolution.” In another striking scene, a few participants climbed onto a large tree and waved the Indian national flag above the crowd.
The large turnout was achieved despite disruptions to public transport. With 16 Metro stations remaining closed, many participants walked considerable distances or used alternative travel routes to reach Jantar Mantar.
Organisers Urge Discipline During Demonstration
Throughout the day, chants echoed across the protest site as fresh groups of supporters continued to arrive. To maintain consistency and prevent controversy, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka requested participants to limit themselves to four officially approved slogans: “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, “Inquilab Zindabad”, “Jai Bheem”, and “Dharmendra Pradhan Istifa Do”. He also appealed to demonstrators to avoid raising slogans that could negatively affect the public perception of the movement.
Many protesters maintained that they intended to continue their demonstration despite earlier police action and ongoing restrictions.
Brief Disturbance Causes Panic
A short period of confusion occurred at around 5 pm when a small section of the crowd threw empty bottles into the air. The unexpected incident prompted several people nearby to move away quickly. Delhi Police immediately appealed through loudspeakers for calm and requested that participants avoid actions that could create unnecessary panic. The situation was brought under control shortly afterwards, and the protest continued.
Volunteers Ensure Food and Water Remain Available
Even with the growing crowd, essential supplies remained widely available throughout the day. Although CJP organisers had earlier appealed to supporters not to send food items, volunteers, students and well-wishers continued arriving with meals, drinking water, fruit juices and other refreshments. The steady flow of assistance helped ensure that participants had access to basic necessities as the demonstration carried on into the evening.
