PoliceInvestigation –Delhi Police have stepped up their investigation after violent incidents linked to the Cockroach Janta Party protest in the national capital, registering multiple criminal cases while expanding surveillance and evidence collection.

Delhi Police have registered 10 First Information Reports (FIRs) following clashes that broke out during the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest in Delhi earlier this week. Officials said the cases relate to violence, attacks on police personnel, obstruction of government duties and other alleged offences that occurred during the demonstration. Authorities have also strengthened security arrangements around Jantar Mantar as the protest continues.

Multiple criminal cases registered

According to senior police officials, one of the FIRs has been lodged at Parliament Street Police Station against unidentified individuals. The case includes allegations of assaulting public servants while they were performing official duties, disrupting public administration and other offences under applicable laws. Investigators are working to identify those allegedly involved through video evidence and witness accounts.

Officer injured during fresh unrest

Police said another incident of violence was reported on Wednesday evening when Assistant Commissioner of Police Jai Prakash, posted in Punjabi Bagh, suffered a head injury. Officials stated that the officer was hit by a stone at around 4:30 pm while supervising law and order arrangements near Jantar Mantar. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where he received medical treatment.

Viral videos become part of investigation

Authorities said an earlier confrontation also took place near the Tolstoy Marg-Parliament Street intersection during a shift change involving Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel. Police claimed that as protesters gathered at the location and raised slogans, some RAF members attempting to cross the road were allegedly attacked.

Videos circulating widely on social media appear to show two RAF personnel being assaulted. In one clip, an officer is seen falling to the ground before being allegedly kicked and punched by several people. A few individuals are later seen helping the injured personnel move away from the crowd. Investigators said these videos, along with CCTV recordings and other electronic evidence, are being examined to establish the identities of those responsible.

Surveillance network expanded

Police have increased monitoring across key areas surrounding the protest venue. Officials said everyone entering the site is being closely observed, and any suspicious activity immediately triggers alerts to senior officers for further verification.

Investigators have collected footage from CCTV cameras and drones positioned around Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place and the Regal Cinema area. Facial recognition technology is also being used to help identify individuals suspected of participating in acts of violence during the protest.

Social media under close watch

Delhi Police said online platforms are being continuously monitored to prevent the spread of misinformation related to the protest. Officials added that clarifications are being issued whenever misleading or unverified claims are detected on social media.

Security deployment remained heavy around Jantar Mantar throughout Wednesday. Police appealed to protesters to maintain peace, avoid responding to rumours and refrain from sharing unverified information that could create confusion or escalate tensions.

Probe examines possible planning behind violence

Police confirmed that nearly 70 protesters detained after Monday’s clashes were released following questioning. However, the investigation into the incidents is continuing.

Officials are also examining whether the violence that occurred during the march towards Parliament was spontaneous or the result of prior planning. Investigators are looking into possible evidence of advance coordination or instigation that may have contributed to the clashes.

Separately, Delhi Police have instructed all personnel deployed at Jantar Mantar to remain in official uniform while on duty. The directive follows the circulation of several social media videos showing individuals in plain clothes using batons and force during the protest, prompting concerns and public discussion over their identity and role.
