Security – CRPF Reinforcements Sent to Delhi Amid Protests and Parliament Session
Security –The Union government has decided to send 20 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to Delhi to reinforce security arrangements as the national capital witnesses ongoing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demonstrations by several political groups, and the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The move is aimed at ensuring effective law and order management during a period of heightened public activity and political engagement.
Home Ministry Issues Deployment Order
According to officials, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) approved the deployment late Tuesday. Soon after the order was issued, arrangements were made to airlift CRPF personnel from Kolkata to Delhi. The rapid transfer reflects the government’s effort to strengthen security without delay as multiple events continue simultaneously in the capital.
Officials familiar with the development said the reinforcements are intended to assist local authorities in maintaining peace and ensuring that public gatherings remain under control throughout the Parliament session and the scheduled demonstrations.
Additional Forces to Support Delhi Police
Security officials stated that all 20 CRPF companies are being transported from Kolkata, where they had remained stationed after the Assembly elections conducted earlier this year. Each CRPF company generally consists of around 100 personnel, significantly increasing the available security presence in Delhi once the deployment is completed.
The additional personnel will work alongside the Delhi Police to manage crowd control, protect sensitive locations, and respond quickly to any situation that may arise during protests or political demonstrations.
Deployment Follows Recent Clashes
The decision to strengthen security comes after several recent incidents in which protests reportedly turned violent. Officials said these developments highlighted the need for immediate reinforcement to prevent further disturbances and to maintain public order across key areas of the national capital.
Authorities are expected to closely monitor protest sites, major government buildings, and other important locations while ensuring that routine civic activities continue with minimal disruption.
Forces Previously Stationed in West Bengal
The CRPF companies being moved to Delhi were earlier deployed in West Bengal during the state’s Assembly elections. Although the election process had concluded, the personnel continued to remain there after the state government requested their presence for an extended period.
With the latest requirement emerging in Delhi, the Centre has now redirected these companies to support security operations in the capital.
Existing Security Presence Expanded
The latest deployment adds to the security forces that have already been stationed in Delhi. Before this decision, the Centre had provided nearly 30 companies of the CRPF along with its specialised anti-riot formation, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), to assist the Delhi Police.
These units have been deployed to strengthen security arrangements during the ongoing CJP protests and the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which commenced on July 20. Officials said the combined presence of CRPF, RAF, and Delhi Police personnel is expected to improve preparedness and help maintain law and order as political activities continue in the city.
