Traffic – Chandigarh Issues Advisory Ahead of PM Modi’s July 17 Visit
Traffic –Chandigarh residents have been advised to plan their journeys carefully on Friday as temporary traffic restrictions will be in place during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Authorities have requested public cooperation to ensure smooth movement and effective security arrangements across the city.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police has released a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit on July 17. Officials said certain roads will experience temporary diversions and movement restrictions because of VVIP security arrangements. Commuters have been urged to leave early if necessary, use alternate routes, and follow official traffic updates throughout the day.
Temporary Road Restrictions Announced
According to the advisory, traffic movement will be regulated on the stretch from the Chandigarh-Nayagaon Barrier to the PEC Light Point and further up to the Sector 2/3/10-11 Chowk. The restrictions are expected to remain in effect during the VVIP movement, with the public advised to avoid the affected route until 3:00 PM on Friday.
Police officials also indicated that additional roads across the city could be subject to temporary diversions depending on security requirements. Motorists are encouraged to monitor official traffic notifications and adjust their travel plans to minimize delays.
Authorities Urge Public Cooperation
The Chandigarh Traffic Police has appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with security personnel during the Prime Minister’s visit. Officials acknowledged that the temporary restrictions may cause inconvenience but emphasized that the measures are necessary to facilitate secure and uninterrupted movement.
To reduce congestion, commuters have been advised to follow alternative routes wherever possible. The traffic department has also asked the public to stay updated through its official social media platforms, where real-time information regarding diversions and road conditions will be shared.
Parking Rules to Be Strictly Enforced
The advisory also outlines specific parking instructions for guests, invitees, and government officials attending scheduled events. All authorized vehicles must be parked only in designated parking areas.
Authorities warned that vehicles parked on cycle tracks, pedestrian pathways, or in no-parking zones will face legal action, including towing. The police have requested motorists to comply with parking regulations to prevent unnecessary traffic disruptions during the high-security visit.
