Weather Forecast –Monsoon update and regional weather outlook for India – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected a week of contrasting weather conditions across different parts of the country. While several eastern and northeastern states are expected to receive prolonged spells of heavy rainfall, parts of southern and southeastern coastal India are likely to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions, creating two distinct weather patterns across the region.
Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Eastern and Northeastern States
According to the latest forecast issued by the IMD, the focus of monsoon activity has shifted towards eastern and northeastern India. Meteorological experts have warned that these regions could witness continuous rain over the next seven days, with some areas expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The department has advised residents and local authorities to remain alert as persistent showers may lead to waterlogging, disruption to transport, and localized flooding in vulnerable locations.
Meghalaya and Bengal Under Special Rainfall Alert
Speaking to ANI, IMD scientist Akhil said Meghalaya and parts of West Bengal are likely to experience the most intense rainfall during the current weather system. An “extremely heavy rainfall” warning has been issued for these areas, indicating the possibility of exceptionally high rainfall accumulation within a short period. Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions as the monsoon system remains active over the region.
Several States Likely to Receive Widespread Monsoon Showers
Apart from Meghalaya and West Bengal, the IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and the Gangetic plains of West Bengal during the coming week. The department noted that rainfall intensity may vary from day to day, but overall monsoon activity is expected to remain strong across these states. Residents have been advised to stay informed through official weather updates and exercise caution, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Rainfall Activity to Expand Towards Himalayan States
The weather department has also indicated that rainfall will gradually extend towards the western Himalayan region. Uttarakhand is expected to come under a heavy rainfall warning beginning July 15. As the week progresses, Jammu and Kashmir as well as Himachal Pradesh may also witness significant precipitation. These conditions could increase the likelihood of landslides and travel disruptions in mountainous districts, prompting authorities to monitor the situation closely.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh Faces Heatwave Conditions
In contrast to the active monsoon over northern and eastern India, several coastal regions in the south are likely to remain under uncomfortable weather conditions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and parts of Odisha are expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next three to four days. The IMD has further warned that coastal Andhra Pradesh may continue to experience heatwave conditions for at least the next three days, with daytime temperatures remaining significantly above normal.
Sharp Weather Divide Across the Country
The latest IMD outlook highlights the sharp regional contrast expected during the coming week. While the eastern, northeastern, and parts of the northern regions prepare for intense monsoon rainfall, the southeastern coastline will continue dealing with high temperatures combined with elevated humidity levels. Weather officials have advised people to follow official forecasts regularly and take necessary precautions based on local conditions as the changing weather pattern unfolds across different parts of India.
