Monsoon – Rainfall Brings Relief to Delhi, Alerts Issued Across North India
Monsoon – Delhi and nearby areas have received moderate rain over the past 24 hours, accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds. The showers have provided relief from the recent humid heat, with temperatures in the national capital falling by around one to two degrees Celsius.
Cooler Days Expected in Delhi
The India Meteorological Department has said that wet conditions are likely to continue in Delhi over the next three days. More rain and thunderstorms may lead to a further decline in daytime temperatures, although residents could still face brief spells of gusty winds and water accumulation in low-lying areas.
Commuters have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall, particularly during peak traffic hours, as roads in several parts of the capital may become congested.
Orange Alert for Several States
The weather department has issued orange alerts for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab, warning of heavy rainfall and possible local disruptions. The alert indicates that people in vulnerable areas should remain prepared for changing conditions, including waterlogging, reduced visibility and interruptions to road travel.
Authorities have urged residents to follow local weather updates and avoid travelling unless necessary during heavy rain or thunderstorms.
Waterlogging Affects Mathura Movement
In Uttar Pradesh, Mathura witnessed heavy rain overnight, leading to widespread waterlogging in several localities. Water-filled roads slowed traffic and made movement difficult for pedestrians, especially in areas with poor drainage.
Local residents reported delays in reaching workplaces and markets as rainwater remained on key roads during the morning hours. Municipal teams are expected to monitor affected areas and clear blocked drainage points where required.
Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Dungarpur
Parts of Rajasthan also recorded intense rainfall. In Dungarpur, overnight showers combined with thunder and lightning caused flooding in multiple neighbourhoods. Water reportedly rose above three feet in sections of the old city, affecting areas such as Ghati, Kanera Pol, Mochi Bazar and Bhoiwada.
The accumulation of rainwater disrupted normal movement and raised concerns for residents living in low-lying locations. Officials are keeping watch on local drainage systems and water levels as rainfall activity continues.
Low-Pressure System Driving Rainfall Activity
According to the IMD, the current weather pattern is linked to a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh. The system is expected to move gradually towards the west-northwest over the next 24 hours before losing strength.
The seasonal monsoon trough and an upper-air cyclonic circulation are also supporting rain activity across northern and western parts of the country. These weather systems are likely to keep conditions favourable for showers, thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall in several districts.

The IMD has asked people in affected regions to stay alert during thunderstorms and heavy rain. Residents should avoid standing under trees, electric poles, temporary shelters or weak structures during lightning and strong winds.
Travellers have been advised to check road and traffic updates before leaving home, particularly in areas facing waterlogging or flooding. People should also avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall and follow instructions issued by district administrations and emergency services.
