Rocket Propellant – SpaceFields to Build Advanced Solid Fuel Manufacturing Facility in Andhra Pradesh

Rocket Propellant –  India’s expanding aerospace and defence manufacturing sector is set to receive a significant boost as SpaceFields Pvt Ltd prepares to establish a state-of-the-art solid propellant production facility in Andhra Pradesh. The upcoming project is expected to enhance the country’s self-reliance in advanced propulsion technologies used in both defence systems and space missions while creating hundreds of skilled employment opportunities.

Major Manufacturing Unit Approved in Anantapur

SpaceFields Pvt Ltd, a fast-growing deep-tech company focused on aerospace and defence innovation, has secured approval for the allocation of 120.76 acres of land at the Industrial Park in Thimmasamudram, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district. The manufacturing complex will be dedicated to the processing of solid rocket propellants, a critical component for strategic defence and space launch applications.

The company plans to begin commercial production by July 2028. Once operational, the facility is expected to provide nearly 300 direct jobs, primarily for engineers, researchers and other highly skilled professionals.

Startup Focuses on Indigenous Propulsion Technology

Established in 2021 by Apurwa Masook, Rounak Agrawal and Sudarshan Samal, SpaceFields has been developing advanced rocket propulsion systems designed for India’s defence and space sectors. Since its inception, the startup has concentrated on building indigenous technologies aimed at reducing dependence on imported propulsion solutions.

Its work has earned recognition within India’s growing space technology ecosystem, positioning the company among the emerging innovators contributing to strategic aerospace capabilities.

Defence Projects and Patent Portfolio Support Growth

SpaceFields has strengthened its presence through multiple projects awarded under the Ministry of Defence’s Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative. The company has secured four contracts through the programme while also developing several proprietary propulsion technologies protected by patent filings.

These achievements have helped establish the startup as an important participant in India’s efforts to expand domestic research, manufacturing and technological capabilities in the defence sector.

Investor Confidence Strengthens Expansion Plans

The company’s growth has also been supported by strong investor interest. During a pre-Series A funding round held last year, SpaceFields raised Rs 42 crore, equivalent to approximately 5 million US dollars.

The investment round was led by Globaz Technologies, while Rockstud Capital and Venture Catalysts++ joined as co-lead investors. Financial support also came from Rainmatter, backed by Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath, along with SIDBI, MeitY Startup Hub, Burla Angel Network, O2 Angels, Faad Capital and several other investment partners focused on deep-tech ventures.

State Government to Develop Supporting Infrastructure

According to the government order approving the proposal, the project received clearance after technical assessments conducted by the State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) and the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB).

Officials noted that manufacturing solid propellants requires specialised production systems, extensive safety measures and significant separation distances due to strict regulatory standards governing energetics facilities. To support the project, the Andhra Pradesh government will develop essential external infrastructure, including water supply, high-voltage electricity connectivity and road access to the industrial site.

The investment is expected to contribute to the state’s industrial development while supporting India’s broader objective of strengthening domestic capabilities in advanced aerospace and strategic defence manufacturing.
