Digital Health – Andhra Pradesh to Expand AI-Driven Sanjeevani Healthcare Across State

Digital Health –  Andhra Pradesh is preparing to introduce its Sanjeevani healthcare programme across the state after its technology-driven preventive care model received national attention during a health policy meeting in New Delhi.

Andhra pradesh sanjeevani digital healthcare

Andhra Pradesh’s flagship healthcare initiative, Sanjeevani, drew significant interest from health ministers representing several states during the National Health Forum held in New Delhi on Monday. The programme was showcased at the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare meeting, where state Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav outlined how digital technology and Artificial Intelligence are being integrated to strengthen preventive healthcare services.

Statewide Launch Planned After Pilot Success

Addressing the gathering, Yadav said the Sanjeevani programme is ready for a statewide rollout in August following encouraging results from its pilot phase. The initiative was first introduced in the Kuppam Assembly constituency in July last year before being expanded across Chittoor district to evaluate its effectiveness in delivering healthcare services closer to communities.

The minister said the expansion reflects the Andhra Pradesh government’s broader strategy of identifying health risks at an early stage rather than relying mainly on treatment after illnesses develop. According to him, the programme combines digital tools with field-level medical services to improve public health outcomes across urban and rural regions alike.

Focus on Doorstep Medical Screening

Designed under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Sanjeevani initiative aims to reduce the gap in healthcare access between cities and villages. Instead of expecting people to travel for routine medical examinations, the programme will bring diagnostic services directly to their local communities through specially equipped mobile units.

A key element of the initiative is the Citizen Health Screening programme, under which 904 Mobile Medical Units, commonly known as 104 vehicles, will operate across the state. The government has allocated an annual budget of Rs 163 crore for this component. Each mobile unit is expected to conduct 41 different diagnostic tests for up to 20 individuals every day, enabling large-scale preventive health screening.

Digital Records and AI-Based Monitoring

Information collected during these medical examinations will be converted into digital health records for every participant. These records will then be connected to centralised Digital Nerve Centres that will continuously analyse the data using advanced digital systems.

The integrated platform is expected to generate automated health alerts whenever potential medical concerns are identified. It will also support telemedicine consultations, allowing patients to connect with healthcare professionals remotely, while enabling faster scheduling of hospital appointments whenever specialist treatment is required.

Officials believe this digital framework will help doctors monitor patients more effectively, improve continuity of care, and ensure that medical intervention begins before conditions become more serious.

Recognition for Digital Healthcare Efforts

During his presentation, Yadav said Andhra Pradesh has made considerable progress in adopting digital health records and Artificial Intelligence within its healthcare system. According to the minister, these efforts have received recognition from the Central government, placing the state among the leading adopters of technology-based healthcare management in the country.

With the statewide implementation scheduled for August, the government expects the Sanjeevani programme to strengthen preventive healthcare, improve access to diagnostic services, and create a more connected public health system capable of serving people across every district.
