Economic Diplomacy – US Envoy Highlights Faster Business Support Through Strong Washington Links
Economic Diplomacy – The United States ambassador to India has said that close coordination between senior officials in Washington and the US Embassy in New Delhi is helping resolve long-pending business matters more efficiently, creating stronger opportunities for companies operating in both countries.

Ambassador Stresses Direct Access to Senior Leadership
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said his previous assignment as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office gave him long-standing professional relationships with many of the senior members of President Donald Trump’s administration. Speaking during the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit, Gor explained that these connections now allow him to communicate directly with cabinet officials instead of navigating lengthy administrative channels.
According to the ambassador, this approach has significantly improved the speed at which business-related concerns can be addressed. He noted that direct conversations with top decision-makers often replace complicated bureaucratic processes that would otherwise delay action.
Regulatory Challenges Addressed Through Faster Coordination
To illustrate the approach, Gor referred to a case involving both American and Indian pharmaceutical companies that had struggled with unresolved regulatory issues for several years. He said the companies presented their concerns during a meeting at the embassy, after which he immediately contacted US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Within days, a virtual meeting was arranged involving senior officials from key US public health and regulatory agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Gor said the coordinated effort helped move discussions forward much faster than traditional procedures typically allow.
Focus on Practical Outcomes
The ambassador observed that both President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi share a leadership style centered on achieving measurable results. He said both leaders place greater importance on solving problems than allowing administrative hurdles to slow progress.
Gor added that when direct communication can accelerate a solution, officials are willing to use that channel rather than allowing important commercial matters to remain unresolved. He described this results-driven approach as an important factor in strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
Embassy Encourages Businesses to Seek Assistance
Highlighting the embassy’s role in supporting commercial ties, Gor said the US mission in New Delhi remains accessible to companies facing operational or regulatory challenges. He encouraged businesses from both countries to approach the embassy whenever government processes create unnecessary delays.
According to him, embassy officials are prepared to help connect businesses with the appropriate authorities whenever possible, ensuring that legitimate projects receive timely attention. He said identifying mutually beneficial opportunities contributes to job creation and strengthens economic partnerships between India and the United States.
White House Continues to Back Overseas Business Interests
Gor also emphasized that President Trump remains personally involved in supporting American companies expanding abroad. He said the administration does not distinguish between large and small commercial projects if they have the potential to create employment in the United States.
The ambassador stated that the administration’s broader strategy is focused on delivering tangible economic benefits through trade, investment, and commercial engagement rather than limiting diplomacy to formal meetings and discussions.
India Remains a Key Economic Partner
The Trump administration has renewed its emphasis on economic diplomacy by encouraging US embassies worldwide to assist American exporters, promote investment opportunities, and support businesses operating overseas. Within that strategy, India has emerged as one of Washington’s most significant commercial partners.
Cooperation between the two countries continues to expand across sectors such as defence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, technology, clean energy, and innovation. Officials from both governments view stronger commercial engagement as an important pillar of the broader India-US strategic relationship, with continued efforts aimed at encouraging investment, strengthening supply chains, and generating long-term economic growth for both nations.
