Thailand Confirms Princess’s Passing

Princess Bajrakitiyabha passed away on June 11, 2026, at the age of 47. Her death was officially confirmed by Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department and the Office of the Prime Minister. Authorities described her as a highly respected national figure whose dedication to public service left a meaningful mark on the country.

India also conveyed its condolences after the announcement. The Embassy of India in Bangkok issued a statement expressing sympathy to the King, the Royal Family, and the people of Thailand, while acknowledging the Princess’s contributions to diplomacy and public service.

Health Struggles Before Her Death

Official reports stated that the Princess had remained in a coma since December 2022 after collapsing while training her pet dog in Pak Chong district, located in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Medical experts later determined that a heart-related condition had triggered the emergency.

Over time, her condition became more severe due to complications arising from a serious infection that affected multiple organ systems. Despite receiving extensive medical treatment and continuous care, she passed away peacefully at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, according to the Royal Household Bureau.

Distinguished Career in Law and Diplomacy

Born on December 7, 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha was the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Princess Soamsawali Krom Muen Suddhanarinatha. Throughout her career, she became widely recognized for promoting legal reform and social rehabilitation programs.

One of her most notable initiatives was the Kamlangjai, or “Inspire,” project, which focused on supporting women inmates and helping them successfully return to society after incarceration.

Her academic achievements included studying law at Cornell University. She later represented Thailand at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and served as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria between 2012 and 2014. In 2017, she was appointed a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Nation Honors Her Lasting Contributions

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described the Princess as a source of national pride, emphasizing that her efforts to promote fairness, compassion, and equal opportunity would continue to inspire future generations.

Following her death, King Maha Vajiralongkorn ordered that royal funeral ceremonies be conducted with the highest honors under long-standing royal traditions. The Princess will lie in state at Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall within Bangkok’s Grand Palace, where the nation will pay its respects to a royal figure remembered for her enduring commitment to public service.
