Infrastructure – Telangana Pushes Centre for Key Transport and Water Projects
Infrastructure – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and sought the Union government’s support on several long-pending development proposals, including irrigation, transport infrastructure, urban mobility, higher education, and aviation projects. During the meeting, the Chief Minister submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting issues that require immediate attention from the Centre.

Call for Cooperation on Godavari Water Utilisation
A major concern raised during the discussion was the effective utilisation of Godavari river waters. Revanth Reddy requested the Prime Minister to facilitate discussions between the governments of Telangana and Maharashtra to ensure better coordination on water-sharing arrangements.
According to the Chief Minister, the availability and utilisation of Godavari water will play a vital role in meeting Telangana’s future irrigation and drinking water requirements. He stressed that a cooperative approach between the neighbouring states would help address long-term water needs.
Request for Hyderabad Metro Rail Expansion Approval
The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project. He informed the Prime Minister that the state had already submitted a proposal covering nearly 123 kilometres across seven corridors.
The proposed expansion is estimated to cost around Rs 38,595 crore. Revanth Reddy requested that the project be implemented through a joint partnership between the Central and State governments, saying it would significantly improve public transportation and reduce traffic congestion in the rapidly growing metropolitan region.
Regional Ring Road Project Highlighted
Another major issue discussed was the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR). The Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made so far, particularly on the northern section of the project.
He noted that the Telangana government had agreed to bear half of the land acquisition expenses and had already released Rs 626 crore to the National Highways Authority of India. More than 90 percent of the required land for the northern stretch has already been acquired, he added.
Focus on Southern Corridor Development
Revanth Reddy emphasised that the southern section of the Regional Ring Road is equally important for Hyderabad’s future transportation network. The proposed corridor connecting Choutuppal and Sangareddy is expected to improve connectivity around the city and support economic activity in surrounding regions.
He requested the Prime Minister to grant approvals for both the northern and southern sections and ensure speedy execution of the project.
Expressway Project Awaiting Clearance
The Chief Minister also raised the issue of the Hyderabad-Amaravati-Bandar Port Expressway, which is awaiting approval from the Centre. The proposed 12-lane highway is expected to provide direct connectivity between Hyderabad and Bandar Port through Amaravati.
According to the state government, the expressway would strengthen logistics and export capabilities for several industries, including pharmaceuticals, electronics, and food processing. The project is also expected to provide improved port access for Telangana, which does not have a coastline.
Push for Warangal Airport and IIM Hyderabad
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy sought support for the development of Warangal Airport. He informed the Prime Minister that land acquisition has already been completed and the land has been handed over to the Airports Authority of India.
The airport project is expected to benefit industries, educational institutions, and tourism activities across North Telangana.
The Chief Minister also requested the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. He stated that the state government is prepared to allocate 200 acres of land for the institution. He pointed out that Telangana already hosts several leading national institutions and said the addition of an IIM would further strengthen higher education opportunities while supporting the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
