Politics – Congress leader Sachin Pilot used the occasion of his father Rajesh Pilot’s 26th death anniversary to deliver a message of unity within the party while also launching a strong critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at both the state and national levels.
Addressing journalists after an interfaith prayer gathering held in Bhandana village of Rajasthan’s Dausa district on Thursday, Pilot spoke positively about his relationship with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. He said the veteran Congress leader shares the same warmth and affection toward him that he has for his son, Vaibhav Gehlot. Pilot added that all leaders and workers in the Congress are committed to serving the party’s larger goals.
Tribute to Rajesh Pilot Draws Large Gathering
The memorial programme was organized to honor the legacy of Rajesh Pilot, a former Union Minister and prominent farmers’ leader who lost his life in a road accident near Bhandana on June 11, 2000. The event witnessed the participation of thousands of people from different parts of Rajasthan, reflecting the lasting influence he continues to hold among the public.
Sachin Pilot paid floral respects at the memorial along with his sons, Aran Pilot and Vihan Pilot. Several senior Congress leaders, Members of Parliament, legislators, and party workers were also present during the ceremony.
Criticism of Government Policies
Following the prayer meeting, Pilot turned his attention to issues affecting young people, farmers, and ordinary citizens. He alleged that repeated irregularities in competitive examinations have damaged the future prospects of millions of students.
Referring to examination controversies, he said incidents such as the NEET paper leak and problems linked to other recruitment tests have raised serious concerns. He further claimed that corruption remains a major challenge and argued that farmers are facing financial pressure due to declining earnings and rising costs.
Pilot also highlighted increasing fuel and cooking gas prices, saying that the burden of inflation continues to affect households across the country.
Opposition Parties Seeking Common Ground
The Congress leader said opposition groups are increasingly working together to challenge what they consider ineffective governance. According to him, reports of corruption continue to emerge in Rajasthan, yet adequate action is not being taken.
He also alleged that internal disagreements within the ruling establishment have created uncertainty regarding decision-making processes. At the same time, he expressed concern over the state’s law-and-order situation, claiming that public confidence has been affected.
Concerns Over Local Body Elections
Pilot questioned the handling of local body elections in Rajasthan and alleged that the state government was reluctant to conduct the polls despite observations made by the Supreme Court. He suggested that concerns about public dissatisfaction may be influencing the government’s approach.
Discussing rural development and agriculture, he argued that several welfare initiatives are being repackaged rather than expanded. He also criticized comments that appeared to underestimate the amount of work undertaken by farmers during the year.
BJP Asked to Defend Its Record
Pilot said that after more than a decade in power at the Centre, the BJP should focus on explaining its own achievements and performance. He argued that continuing to blame previous Congress administrations led by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh does not address current challenges facing the country.
Congress Emphasizes Internal Cohesion
Highlighting organizational unity, Pilot stated that Congress leaders and workers from different generations remain committed to advancing the vision put forward by Rahul Gandhi. He expressed confidence that the Rajasthan unit of the party would continue to demonstrate strong internal coordination.
He also commented on the cancellation of Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination from Madhya Pradesh, describing the development as a conspiracy. Pilot said the party would explore all available legal options, including approaching the Supreme Court if required.
The memorial event not only celebrated the enduring contribution of Rajesh Pilot to public life but also served as a platform for Congress leaders to underline solidarity as political competition intensifies in Rajasthan and other parts of the country.
