Governance – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a significant place in India’s political history by becoming the country’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. On Wednesday, he surpassed the tenure record previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, marking an important moment in the nation’s democratic journey.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan congratulated the Prime Minister on the achievement and described it as a reflection of a period marked by major developments across different sectors. In a message shared on social media platform X, he said the milestone represented more than the number of years spent in office and symbolized a broader phase of national transformation.
Recognition of Development and Growth
According to the Vice President, India has experienced notable progress during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure in areas including economic expansion, infrastructure development, social welfare, technological innovation, and international engagement. He stated that the country’s growing influence on the global stage and advancements in several sectors have contributed to shaping a new chapter in India’s development story.
Radhakrishnan noted that the Prime Minister’s leadership has been associated with efforts aimed at improving opportunities for citizens while supporting long-term national growth. Among the examples cited were the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam, which were launched to encourage cultural exchange and strengthen historical ties between communities. He also referred to the installation of the Sengol in the new Parliament building and the Prime Minister’s visit to Gangaikonda Cholapuram, which honored the legacy of the Chola dynasty.
Additionally, Radhakrishnan highlighted the return of valuable artifacts and antiquities from overseas as an important step toward preserving India’s heritage and reconnecting the country with significant elements of its historical legacy.
Looking Ahead to Viksit Bharat 2047
Describing Prime Minister Modi as a leader who has inspired confidence among citizens, the Vice President said his vision and commitment continue to play an important role in shaping India’s future goals. He added that the government’s long-term objective of achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047 remains a key national aspiration.

With 4,399 consecutive days in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now exceeded Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 continuous days as an elected Prime Minister. The milestone places Modi at the top of the list of India’s longest-serving elected Prime Ministers and marks another notable chapter in the country’s political history.
