Cricket League – The fifth season of the Andhra Premier League (APL) is set to take place across three different venues in Andhra Pradesh, introducing a new format that extends the tournament beyond a single host city. The move reflects the Andhra Cricket Association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cricket infrastructure and create wider opportunities for talented players from different parts of the state.

Tournament Schedule Announced
Speaking at a media interaction held at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, APL Governing Council Chairman Sujay Krishna Rangarao confirmed the schedule for the upcoming edition. According to him, matches will be staged in Visakhapatnam from June 9 to June 14, followed by fixtures in Kadapa between June 17 and June 21. The final phase of the competition will then be conducted in Mangalagiri from June 24 to June 30.
He explained that taking the tournament to multiple venues is intended to broaden the reach of the league while allowing cricket enthusiasts in different regions to experience high-quality domestic competition.
Focus on Grassroots Cricket Growth
Rangarao said the league continues to play a significant role in strengthening the cricket ecosystem within Andhra Pradesh. Beyond entertainment, the tournament serves as a platform for young cricketers to showcase their abilities and gain valuable match experience.
He noted that the Andhra Cricket Association plans to expand the competition further in future editions by utilizing additional stadiums across the state. Such initiatives are expected to contribute to the long-term development of cricket and help identify promising talent at an early stage.
State Players Making Their Mark
Highlighting recent achievements, Rangarao pointed to the improving performances of Andhra players in domestic tournaments. He said strong displays in competitions such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy demonstrate the progress being made through the state’s cricket development programs.
He also emphasized the growing presence of Andhra cricketers in the Indian Premier League, describing it as a positive indicator of the success of training systems and talent identification efforts undertaken by the association over the years.
Opening Ceremony and Infrastructure Investments
The tournament will begin with an opening ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is expected to attend the event as the chief guest. Organizers anticipate a strong turnout as the league returns with a broader statewide footprint.
Rangarao also highlighted major investments in cricket infrastructure. He stated that the stadium in Kadapa is fully prepared to host matches of international standards. In addition, the Andhra Cricket Association has invested nearly ₹50 crore in developing its facility at Mangalagiri, underscoring its commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in the region.
Opening Match to Launch Season
The first match of the season will start at 7:30 p.m., featuring Simhadri Vizag Lions against Kakinada Kings. The contest will officially launch the fifth edition of the Andhra Premier League and set the stage for several days of competitive cricket across the three designated venues.
