Congress – Rajasthan Leadership Row Rekindles Political Debate Within Party
Congress – Former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam on Monday intensified his criticism of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the party leadership never seriously considered making Sachin Pilot the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. According to Krishnam, decisions taken by the central leadership contributed significantly to the prolonged internal tensions that have affected the party’s functioning in the state for several years.

Fresh Attention on Rajasthan Power Struggle
The issue has once again come into focus following recent remarks by veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot stated that the events of September 2022 should not be viewed as a challenge to the party leadership but rather as a disagreement among legislators over the possibility of a leadership change in Rajasthan.
He also reiterated his earlier claim that circumstances surrounding that period prevented him from becoming Congress president. The post is currently held by Mallikarjun Kharge.
Krishnam Blames Central Leadership
Speaking on the long-standing rivalry between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, Krishnam argued that the roots of the conflict originated within the party’s national leadership rather than among state leaders.
He claimed that Pilot became the target of political maneuvering and suggested that similar situations had unfolded in other states. Referring to developments in Punjab, Krishnam alleged that leadership changes and internal rivalries were encouraged by the party’s top decision-makers before they later distanced themselves from the resulting disputes.
According to him, Pilot was never genuinely positioned as the leading candidate for Rajasthan’s top political post, while Gehlot continued to receive the party’s backing as its primary face in the state.
Questions Raised Over Party Decisions
Krishnam further alleged that influential figures within the Congress leadership deliberately blocked opportunities for Pilot’s elevation. He also questioned why disciplinary measures were not taken against Gehlot during periods of disagreement with the party leadership.
Drawing comparisons with leadership changes in other states, he argued that different standards appeared to be applied in Rajasthan. He maintained that public expectations surrounding Pilot may have influenced the leadership’s approach and claimed that internal decisions were affecting the party’s future prospects.
Concerns Over Opposition Unity
The former Congress leader also commented on the broader opposition alliance and its ability to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He suggested that several opposition parties have become uncertain about the effectiveness of the current leadership structure within the alliance.
Krishnam referred to political relations between various opposition leaders and claimed that disagreements and differing priorities were weakening efforts to present a united front against the ruling party. He argued that concerns regarding leadership were becoming increasingly visible within opposition circles.
Remarks on Congress Organisation
Continuing his criticism, Krishnam stated that the Congress was facing serious internal challenges. He alleged that factionalism and leadership disputes were creating difficulties for the party and warned that unresolved divisions could deepen organizational problems in the future.
His comments come at a time when the Congress is attempting to strengthen its position ahead of upcoming political contests across several states.
Response to Ram Mandir Donation Allegations
During the interaction, Krishnam also reacted to recent allegations raised by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav regarding the handling of donation funds linked to the Ram Mandir project.
While expressing strong political differences with the Samajwadi Party, he said that questions raised by a former chief minister should not be ignored and deserve proper examination. According to him, any concerns connected to public donations should be investigated carefully so that factual information can be established.
Call for Thorough Investigation
Krishnam concluded by urging the central government to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the issues highlighted by Akhilesh Yadav. He said a transparent investigation would help clarify the matter and provide the public with an accurate understanding of the facts.
The remarks add another layer to ongoing political debates involving Congress leadership, opposition unity, and public accountability, issues that continue to shape discussions in India’s political landscape.
