EducationReform – Delhi Police Tightens Security Ahead of Planned Jantar Mantar Protest
EducationReform – Authorities in the national capital have intensified security preparations ahead of a proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar, even though organizers have not yet submitted an official request seeking permission for the gathering. Delhi Police officials confirmed on Friday that no formal application had been received from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has announced plans to stage a protest demanding action over alleged irregularities in major examinations.

Police Await Formal Application
According to senior police officials, any request for permission will be assessed once it is officially submitted. The proposed demonstration has been spearheaded by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived in India from the United States on Friday. Dipke has indicated that he intends to approach the Parliament Street Police Station directly to seek approval before moving ahead with the planned event.
Officials said information regarding the protest has largely emerged through social media activity and online campaign messages. So far, authorities have not received direct communication from the organization regarding arrangements for the gathering.
Extensive Security Measures Under Review
In response to the announcement of the protest, senior officers conducted a detailed review meeting to evaluate the potential impact on public order and traffic management in central Delhi. Sources familiar with the discussions said multiple district units have been placed on alert as a precautionary measure.
Law enforcement agencies are reportedly preparing for a deployment of more than 1,000 personnel across key areas of New Delhi. Additional security arrangements may be introduced depending on intelligence assessments and developments in the coming days.
Officials emphasized that the situation remains under continuous observation and that further decisions will be taken based on evolving circumstances.
Intelligence Agencies Monitoring Developments
Security agencies are also examining reports suggesting that certain political groups may be offering support to the proposed protest. As part of the assessment process, intelligence officials are reviewing information related to several political figures and organizations.
Police sources stated that personnel could be stationed at strategically important and sensitive locations across the city if required. Authorities have stressed that maintaining public safety and law and order remains the top priority.
Court Declines Urgent Hearing
The planned demonstration has also attracted judicial attention. On Friday, the Delhi High Court declined to grant an urgent hearing to a petition seeking immediate directions for crowd-management measures at entry points into the capital ahead of the proposed gathering.
The court’s decision means that, for now, authorities will continue monitoring the situation through existing administrative and security mechanisms.
Organizers Issue Guidelines for Participants
Meanwhile, organizers have circulated a set of instructions aimed at ensuring the event remains peaceful. Participants have been encouraged to carry the national flag and a book, stay hydrated, use sun protection, and document their experiences responsibly. They have also been advised to maintain discipline and avoid any form of violence during the gathering.
Dipke has repeatedly stated that the protest is intended to be conducted peacefully and within constitutional limits. The campaign centers on demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged issues linked to examination administration, including concerns raised about NEET, CBSE examinations, and other competitive entrance tests.
Growing Support Among Students
The movement has gained attention among students and young people across various online platforms. Education reform advocate and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has publicly stated that he would participate in the demonstration if the minister does not step down.
The Cockroach Janta Party initially emerged as a satirical online response to remarks made during a court hearing last month, where certain individuals were allegedly described using terms such as “cockroaches” and “parasites.” Since then, the campaign has expanded into a broader digital movement that has attracted significant engagement from students and youth communities across the country.
