Elections –  Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka in Bengaluru on Wednesday, marking a significant leadership change in the state government. The ceremony drew the presence of top Congress figures from across the country, reflecting the party’s united stance during the transition of power.

Congress Leadership Shows Strong Support

Several prominent Congress leaders attended the oath-taking event, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal was also present alongside other senior leaders, underlining the importance of the occasion for the party’s state and national leadership.

The gathering highlighted the Congress leadership’s support for the new administration as it begins a fresh phase in Karnataka’s governance.

Shivakumar Seeks Blessings Before Taking Office

Before heading to the swearing-in venue, Shivakumar met religious leaders and sought their blessings. He also paid respects to his mother, touching her feet in a traditional gesture before proceeding to take the oath of office.

The moments reflected the personal and cultural significance of the day for the veteran Congress leader, who has played a key role in Karnataka politics for many years.

Party Leaders Praise the Appointment

Among those attending the ceremony was Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who praised Shivakumar’s long-standing contribution to the Congress organization.

Sukhu noted that Shivakumar had worked for the party for many years and previously served as the Karnataka Congress president. He said the leadership decision was made through mutual understanding within the party and expressed confidence that the new Chief Minister would continue implementing the policies established during the previous administration.

Congress Member of Parliament Rajeev Shukla also welcomed the development and described the leadership change as a positive decision by the party leadership. He said Shivakumar’s appointment reflected confidence in a leader known for his organizational abilities and political experience.

Smooth Transfer of Leadership

The swearing-in represents an important political milestone in Karnataka, as Shivakumar succeeds Siddaramaiah after internal consultations within the Congress. The transition was carried out with the backing of senior party leaders and was presented as a coordinated effort to maintain stability in the state government.

Leaders attending the event emphasized that the change in leadership was handled smoothly and demonstrated unity within the party ranks.

Deputy Chief Minister and Cabinet Announced

Ahead of the ceremony, outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that senior Congress leader G Parameshwara would assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister. He stated that both Shivakumar and Parameshwara had met him before the formation of the new government.

The Congress also finalized the first group of ministers joining the cabinet. Alongside Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, leaders including KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Sathish Jarakiholi, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, UT Khader, Eshwar Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Byrathi Suresh and Sharan Prakash Patil took oath as members of the new ministry.

The formation of the cabinet signals the beginning of a new administrative phase in Karnataka, with the Congress leadership aiming to continue its governance agenda while strengthening its position in the state.
