Building Collapse – MCD Report Reveals Details of Deadly Saket Incident
Building Collapse – A report issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has provided fresh details about the building collapse near Saket Metro Station that claimed six lives and left several others injured. The incident occurred in the Said-ul-Ajaib locality on May 30 and triggered a large-scale rescue effort involving multiple civic agencies and emergency teams.

Emergency Response Initiated After Collapse Alert
According to the report, the Zonal Control Room received information about the building collapse through a phone call at approximately 7:55 PM. Following the alert, the civic body immediately deployed officials from its engineering department, including Junior Engineers and Assistant Engineers, along with supporting staff to assess the situation and assist in rescue operations.
Heavy equipment, including trucks and earthmoving machines, was also dispatched to the location without delay. MCD personnel reached the area at around 8:30 PM. However, officials were initially unable to enter the site because the area had already been secured by Delhi Police as part of emergency response measures.
Rescue Teams Pulled Survivors From Debris
Rescue operations continued through the night as teams worked to locate individuals trapped under the collapsed structure. Authorities reported that around 24 people were found during the search efforts. Of these, 18 were successfully rescued from the debris.
Several injured individuals were immediately shifted to a nearby trauma facility for medical treatment. The report confirmed that six people lost their lives in the incident, making it one of the most serious building collapse cases reported in the area in recent times.
Structure Included Recently Added Floors
The MCD report stated that the collapsed property covered roughly 300 square metres. The building consisted of a basement along with ground, first and second floors, which had reportedly been constructed around 12 to 13 years ago.
Investigators found that the third and fourth floors had been added much later. Authorities are examining various aspects related to the construction and structural condition of the building as part of the ongoing assessment.
Property Located in Unauthorized Colony
Officials noted that the structure stood within an unauthorized colony. The locality is not included among the 1,511 colonies that have been identified for regularisation under existing government plans.
The findings have once again drawn attention to concerns regarding construction practices and compliance with building regulations in unauthorized residential areas across the national capital.
Debris Removal Continued Beyond Initial Rescue
The report highlighted that debris clearance and rescue activities continued the following day without interruption. Personnel from both the Building Department and the Maintenance Department remained actively involved in the operation to ensure that the site was safely cleared and all necessary checks were completed.
Authorities said their teams have been continuously engaged in managing the aftermath of the collapse and supporting related recovery work.
Notices Issued Against Nearby Illegal Constructions
During inspections conducted after the incident, officials identified multiple unauthorized structures in the surrounding area. As a result, notices have been served to property owners under provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957.
The civic body stated that action against violations is being pursued in accordance with existing regulations. Further scrutiny of nearby constructions is also expected as authorities seek to prevent similar incidents and improve public safety standards
