WelfareScheme – Punjab Government Launches Monthly Support Program for Women

WelfareScheme –   The Punjab government has announced the rollout of a new financial assistance program aimed at strengthening the economic position of women across the state. With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that eligible women beneficiaries will begin receiving monthly support payments from July 1 under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 52 lakh women, while women belonging to Scheduled Caste communities will receive enhanced financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month.

Funds Allocated for Implementation

Addressing reporters, Mann said the government has already made budgetary provisions to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme. According to him, beneficiary cards have been distributed to nearly 35 lakh women so far. He emphasized that the initiative has been designed as a long-term welfare measure rather than a short-lived program.

The Chief Minister urged citizens not to pay attention to speculation regarding the duration of the scheme. He maintained that the objective is to improve the financial independence of women and provide sustained support for years to come.

Registration Process Remains Open

The state government has clarified that there is no fixed deadline for enrollment under the scheme. Mann encouraged eligible women to complete the registration process without anxiety, stressing that there is no need for last-minute applications.

He further explained that women who are unable to register before July due to documentation issues or administrative procedures will not lose their benefits. Such applicants will receive the pending amount accumulated from July onward in a single payment once their registration is approved.

Support for Household and Educational Expenses

Officials believe the monthly assistance can provide meaningful support for day-to-day needs. The Chief Minister noted that many women could use the funds to cover educational expenses, purchase books, and meet other personal requirements.

He added that the program is intended to reduce financial dependence and provide women with greater flexibility in managing routine expenditures. The government views the initiative as an important step toward strengthening social and economic security for women across urban and rural areas.

Major Reforms Introduced for Farmers

Alongside the welfare announcement, the Punjab government also revealed significant changes to the Kisan Credit Card framework. The revised policy seeks to align agricultural credit limits with current cultivation costs, allowing farmers to access financing that better reflects real-world expenses.

The updated system includes higher crop-specific credit ceilings, lower interest obligations, and broader loan eligibility for high-value agricultural produce as well as allied farming activities. Authorities said the reforms are intended to address evolving challenges faced by the farming sector.

Digital Access and Sustainable Agriculture Focus

Another key feature of the revamped credit structure is the expansion of digital banking facilities for farmers. Under the new arrangement, eligible borrowers will be able to access credit through modern payment channels, including ATMs and UPI-based services.

The government has also introduced dedicated financial assistance for crop residue management. Officials expect this support to help farmers adopt improved practices while addressing environmental concerns linked to stubble disposal.

Highlighting the broader vision behind the reforms, Mann said the measures are designed to improve farm profitability, encourage crop diversification, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of agriculture. He expressed confidence that easier access to credit and updated financial support mechanisms would help place more resources directly in the hands of farmers while promoting growth across the agricultural sector.
