MSME Sustainability – Andhra Pradesh Unveils Major Industrial Efficiency Transformation Plan

MSME Sustainability – Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step toward strengthening its industrial sector with the launch of a comprehensive programme focused on improving energy and water efficiency among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The initiative is being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector enterprise operating under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and is expected to accelerate sustainable industrial growth across the state.

Roadmap Approved Following Industry Summit

The development comes after the successful AP MSME Growth Summit 2026, organised by the state’s Industries Department. Building on the momentum created during the summit, EESL has prepared a detailed implementation strategy aimed at introducing advanced global technologies that can help businesses reduce resource consumption while improving operational performance.

EESL Chief Executive Officer Akhilesh Kumar Dixit approved the action plan after discussions with the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation. The programme is designed to support long-term business sustainability by helping enterprises modernise their operations and adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Focus on Lower Costs and Improved Productivity

Officials said the initiative is expected to help MSMEs reduce energy and maintenance expenses while increasing productivity and competitiveness. By encouraging efficient use of power and water resources, the programme seeks to create a stronger foundation for industrial expansion without placing additional pressure on natural resources.

The project is also expected to contribute to employment generation through the development of green industries and sustainability-related services. Authorities believe the effort will support both economic growth and environmental objectives simultaneously.

Government Support Drives Programme Launch

EESL acknowledged the support extended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in advancing the initiative. During the AP MSME Growth Summit 2026, the state government formally handed over the work order to EESL through the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation.

The event was attended by Industries and MSME Ministers T.G. Bharat and K. Srinivas, Industries Secretary N. Yuva Raj, and APMSME Chief Executive Officer M. Viswa. The handover marked the official commencement of the large-scale programme, which is being implemented under the Government of India’s Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative and the AP MSME & Entrepreneur Development Policy 4.0.

Extensive Audits and Technology Deployment Planned

As part of the approved implementation plan, EESL will carry out a wide range of activities across industrial clusters in Andhra Pradesh. These include awareness and capacity-building workshops, detailed assessments of industrial clusters, and diagnostic studies covering 15 clusters.

The programme also includes investment-grade energy audits for 452 MSMEs and water audits for 300 enterprises. Based on the findings, suitable energy-saving and water-efficient technologies will be introduced to help businesses improve operational efficiency and resource management.

Opportunities for a Green Industrial Economy

Industry officials believe the initiative could stimulate the growth of an entirely new ecosystem centred on sustainability services. Increased demand is expected for skilled technicians, energy auditors, technology providers, consultants, startups, and Energy Service Companies involved in industrial efficiency projects.

According to Industries Secretary N. Yuva Raj, the current phase represents only the beginning of a broader transformation that could reshape the state’s industrial landscape over the coming years. The programme is expected to encourage innovation while creating new business and employment opportunities linked to sustainable manufacturing.

Collaboration With Industrially Advanced States

EESL also highlighted the importance of partnerships with states that have made notable progress in industrial development, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Such collaborations are expected to support the adoption of advanced industrial technologies and encourage wider implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices across the country.

The initiative positions Andhra Pradesh as a key participant in India’s efforts to build a more resource-efficient and environmentally responsible industrial economy while strengthening the competitiveness of its MSME sector.
