MiddleEastConflict – Israel Expands Southern Lebanon Operation Amid Growing Concerns
MiddleEastConflict – Germany has voiced fresh concerns over the escalating military situation in southern Lebanon after Israeli forces expanded their operations in the region. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on all sides involved in the conflict to halt hostilities immediately and return to the ceasefire framework previously agreed upon.

Germany Warns Against Further Escalation
Speaking on the latest developments, Wadephul acknowledged that Israel’s military actions come amid continued attacks launched by Hezbollah against communities in northern Israel. However, he cautioned that any additional military escalation could further destabilize an already fragile environment and worsen humanitarian conditions across Lebanon.
The German minister stressed that prolonged conflict could lead to more civilian displacement and create long-term challenges for affected communities. He warned that if military operations leave parts of Lebanon unsuitable for civilian life, the resulting instability would not contribute to lasting security in the region.
Israeli Forces Advance in Strategic Areas
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday that its troops had taken control of the historic Beaufort Castle after moving into the Beaufort Ridge and Wadi al-Saluki sectors of southern Lebanon. According to military officials, the operation aims to strengthen operational control over key locations while reducing Hezbollah’s military capabilities in the area.
The IDF stated that the targeted locations have long held strategic value and have been linked to Hezbollah’s activities near the border. Israeli military authorities described the operation as part of broader efforts to limit potential threats originating from southern Lebanon.
Netanyahu Highlights Capture of Beaufort Castle
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the military achievement, confirming that Israeli soldiers had secured Beaufort Castle and raised both the national flag and the flag of the Golani Brigade at the site.
Addressing the development, Netanyahu referred to the location’s historical significance, noting that it had been associated with major military events decades earlier. He said the latest operation reflected a different moment for Israel, describing it as a demonstration of unity and determination.
Military Seeks Greater Control Over Border Region
Israeli military officials maintain that Hezbollah used the Beaufort Ridge area to coordinate operations and launch attacks against Israeli targets. The military believes that controlling the area will improve its ability to counter future threats and monitor activity along the border.
The strategic nature of the ridge and surrounding terrain has made it a focal point in the current campaign. Military planners view the area as important for maintaining oversight of movements and operations within southern Lebanon.
Israel Signals Broader Military Objectives
Netanyahu also indicated that military operations would continue beyond the recent territorial gains. He confirmed that Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River and secured several elevated positions considered strategically important.
According to the prime minister, the objective is to deepen Israel’s presence in locations previously associated with Hezbollah activity. He described the capture of Beaufort Ridge as a major milestone and suggested it marks a significant phase in the government’s broader security strategy.
As international attention remains focused on the conflict, diplomatic efforts continue to emphasize restraint and a return to ceasefire arrangements in hopes of preventing further instability across the region.
