Politics – Bihar Bungalow Row Deepens as Rabri Devi Resists Eviction Move
Politics – A fresh political dispute has surfaced in Bihar following developments related to the government residence located at 10 Circular Road in Patna. The matter gained attention after former Bihar Chief Minister and current Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, Rabri Devi, reportedly declined to vacate the official bungalow despite receiving what has been described as the final notice from the state administration.

According to information emerging from official sources, the Bihar government recently issued a final communication directing Rabri Devi to hand over possession of the residence. However, reports indicate that she has firmly rejected the demand and conveyed that she does not intend to leave the property. She is also said to have challenged the administration to proceed with legal enforcement if authorities wish to remove her from the premises.
Officials Visit the Residence
As the issue intensified, Patna Secretariat SDPO Anu Kumari reached the bungalow along with police personnel. During the visit, the officer held discussions with Rabri Devi regarding the matter. The presence of law enforcement at the residence further increased political attention surrounding the dispute.
The developments have quickly become a subject of debate among political leaders, with representatives of both the ruling alliance and the opposition expressing their views on the situation.
Government Defends Administrative Process
Responding to the controversy, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary stated that all administrative actions are undertaken strictly within the framework of existing laws and regulations. He stressed that every citizen is expected to comply with official procedures and noted that decisions regarding government accommodation are governed by established rules.
He further indicated that matters related to allotment and vacation of official residences are handled according to prescribed norms rather than political considerations.
JD(U) Questions Opposition’s Stand
The issue also drew a strong response from Janata Dal (United) leaders. Party Chief Spokesperson Neeraj Kumar criticized Rabri Devi’s position and questioned the reasons behind her refusal to vacate the residence.
According to Kumar, alternative government accommodation has already been arranged. He claimed that additional residential facilities are either available or being developed for eligible occupants. Referring to ongoing projects, he mentioned that a residence is being constructed in Mahuabagh, while another housing arrangement is under development in Kautilya Nagar.
Kumar argued that official housing should not become a source of political confrontation. He said public representatives and senior political figures should demonstrate respect for administrative systems and follow established procedures.
Notices and Accommodation Arrangements
The JD(U) leader further stated that the Building Construction Department had already issued three separate notices concerning the residence. He maintained that sufficient arrangements exist and suggested that there should be no uncertainty regarding alternative accommodation.
During his remarks, Kumar also targeted the Rashtriya Janata Dal leadership politically, alleging that the family possesses considerable assets and property holdings. Based on those claims, he argued that there was no genuine housing-related challenge facing them.
Historic Residence Remains at Centre of Debate
The bungalow at 10 Circular Road has long held political significance in Bihar. For many years, it has been closely associated with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, making it one of the state’s most recognized political addresses.
The disagreement over the residence has now become a major talking point in Bihar’s political landscape. While the ruling National Democratic Alliance maintains that the matter is purely administrative and linked to government housing regulations, opposition voices continue to raise questions about the timing and intent of the action.
Political Tension Likely to Continue
With neither side showing signs of backing down, the dispute is expected to remain in focus in the coming days. Political observers believe the matter could continue to generate discussion as both the state government and Rabri Devi determine their next steps.
