Investigation – Former Judge to Appear in Court After CBI Arrest in Dowry Death Case
Investigation – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to present former judge Giribala Singh before a court on Friday following her arrest in connection with the alleged dowry death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma. The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has remained under close scrutiny since the young woman’s death earlier this year.

Medical Examination Conducted in Bhopal
A day after taking her into custody, CBI officials escorted Giribala Singh to the campus of the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal for a medical examination. According to sources familiar with the matter, a special medical facility was arranged on the institute premises after receiving the necessary authorization from the Madhya Pradesh Police.
During the examination process, an ambulance was also seen arriving at the campus, indicating that medical protocols were being followed as part of the arrest procedure.
Arrest Followed High Court Decision
The arrest came shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail protection previously granted to Singh. The court’s decision cleared the way for investigative agencies to proceed with custodial action in the matter.
Before her arrest, CBI officials reportedly questioned Singh for nearly seven hours at her residence in the Katara Hills locality of Bhopal. A team of investigators, supported by a substantial police presence, arrived at the residence during the morning hours to carry out the inquiry.
Formal Intimation Given to Judicial Authorities
As part of procedural requirements, CBI officers also visited the residence of Principal District Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava in Bhopal to officially inform him about the arrest. Officials were seen carrying documents related to the legal action while completing the formal communication process.
The agency’s actions followed the High Court’s order that overturned the interim relief granted by a district court in Bhopal on May 15. The interim protection had been provided only days after the death of Twisha Sharma.
High Court Observations Added New Dimension
In its detailed order, the High Court noted that evidence presented before it, including WhatsApp conversations and statements provided by Twisha’s family members, suggested that the allegations in the case extended beyond her husband alone.
The court further referred to claims that Twisha had allegedly been pressured to terminate her pregnancy. Observing that the pregnancy termination was not disputed by either side, the court considered it a relevant aspect of the ongoing investigation.
Background of the Case
Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home on May 12, less than five months after marrying Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. Her death triggered allegations of dowry-related harassment and prompted a detailed investigation by central agencies.
Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, who was arrested in Jabalpur on May 22, has already been remanded to CBI custody. Investigators continue to examine multiple aspects of the case as legal proceedings move forward.
