IranTensions – US Conducts Overnight Military Operation Near Strategic Gulf Region
IranTensions – The United States launched overnight military strikes targeting a site in Iran that American officials described as a potential threat to US personnel and commercial shipping routes operating in the region. Several American media organisations reported that the operation was carried out as part of what Washington called a defensive response aimed at protecting regional stability.

According to reports citing a US official, American forces also intercepted drones that had allegedly been launched from Iranian territory during the same period. The official maintained that the military action was precautionary in nature and insisted that the ceasefire understanding between the United States and Iran had not collapsed despite the latest developments.
Explosions Reported Near Bandar Abbas
At nearly the same time, Iranian media outlets reported multiple explosions near Bandar Abbas, a major port city located along the Strait of Hormuz. The incident reportedly occurred early Thursday morning local time, prompting Iranian authorities to activate air defence systems in the surrounding area.
Iran’s Fars news agency stated that officials were investigating the source of the blasts while monitoring security conditions in the strategically significant coastal region. No immediate confirmation was issued regarding casualties or structural damage linked to the incident.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime trade corridors, with a substantial share of global oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway. Any military activity in the area typically raises international concern over regional stability and energy markets.
Trump Signals Tough Position in Negotiations
US President Donald Trump addressed the broader Iran issue during a cabinet meeting at the White House, where he indicated that Washington would not accelerate negotiations simply because of domestic political considerations tied to upcoming midterm elections.
Trump said Iranian leaders had expected political pressure in the United States to weaken his administration’s position at the negotiating table. However, he dismissed those assumptions and stated that his administration remained committed to pursuing terms favourable to US interests.
The president also warned that military action could resume if ongoing discussions failed to produce what Washington considers an acceptable agreement. While expressing confidence that negotiations could eventually lead to a deal, he made it clear that the United States was prepared to take additional steps if diplomatic efforts stalled.
White House Rejects Iranian Media Claims
The White House also pushed back against reports circulated by Iranian state-linked media regarding an alleged draft agreement between the two countries. American officials dismissed the reported framework as inaccurate and described it as entirely fabricated.
Iranian broadcaster IRIB had claimed that the unofficial proposal included the withdrawal of American military forces from areas near Iran and the removal of restrictions affecting Iranian ports. US officials, however, denied that such provisions formed part of any active understanding under discussion.
The conflicting accounts highlighted the continuing lack of trust between both governments as negotiations remain fragile and politically sensitive.
No Sanctions Relief Linked to Uranium Issue
During the same cabinet discussions, Trump addressed questions surrounding Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. He stated that Tehran would not receive sanctions relief in exchange for surrendering the material.
The president stressed that any decision related to uranium restrictions would not automatically lead to the easing of economic penalties imposed on Iran. His remarks suggested that Washington intends to maintain significant leverage during future negotiations.
Diplomatic talks between the two countries continue under close international observation, with analysts warning that further military incidents could complicate efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East.
