Livestock – Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have stepped up preparations ahead of Eid al-Adha, with police in Sambhal increasing security surveillance while livestock markets in Lucknow witness a sharp rise in buyers. Officials say the focus remains on maintaining peace, ensuring smooth celebrations, and enforcing administrative guidelines during the festival period.

Security Measures Intensified in Sambhal

The Sambhal police administration has launched extensive security arrangements across several sensitive locations in the district before Eid al-Adha celebrations. Senior officers, along with local police teams, carried out flag marches in different areas to reassure residents and maintain public confidence ahead of the festival.

Police officials also organised peace committee meetings at multiple levels, including police stations, local outposts, and district headquarters. The meetings involved community representatives and local leaders to encourage coordination and promote communal harmony during the celebrations.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh said authorities have issued clear instructions regarding the conduct of religious activities. According to officials, Eid prayers will take place in mosques between 6 AM and 10 AM, while restrictions have been imposed on open-area animal sacrifices to prevent public inconvenience and maintain order.

The administration has also increased monitoring in crowded locations and sensitive zones to avoid any untoward incidents. Officials stated that deployment of additional personnel and regular patrolling would continue until the conclusion of the festival.

Heavy Rush Seen in Lucknow Goat Markets

At the same time, livestock markets in Lucknow are witnessing growing crowds as families prepare for Eid al-Adha. Buyers from nearby districts and urban areas have been visiting goat markets in large numbers over the past few days, resulting in strong demand for animals across different price ranges.

Traders said the cost of goats has risen noticeably this year due to increased demand and higher transportation and maintenance expenses. Premium breeds, especially healthy and well-maintained animals, are attracting considerable attention from customers despite elevated prices.

Many buyers spent hours comparing rates and negotiating with sellers before finalising purchases. Market areas remained busy throughout the day, with traders expecting the rush to continue until the festival begins.

Several customers acknowledged that inflation has affected household budgets this year. One regular buyer in Lucknow said he had been visiting the same market for more than a decade and noticed a significant rise in prices compared to previous years. According to him, some premium goats were being sold for as much as Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.

Festival Holds Deep Religious Importance

Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, is observed on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The occasion also marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

The festival commemorates the devotion and sacrifice associated with Prophet Abraham, who, according to Islamic tradition, was willing to sacrifice everything in obedience to God. Muslims across the world observe the occasion through prayers, charitable acts, and gatherings with family members and relatives.

Apart from its religious significance, the festival is also viewed as an opportunity to strengthen social bonds and promote goodwill within communities. Families prepare meals, exchange greetings, and participate in charitable activities during the celebrations.

Administration Calls for Peaceful Celebrations

Officials in Uttar Pradesh have appealed to residents to follow local guidelines and cooperate with authorities during the festival period. Police departments in several districts have increased vigilance, particularly in crowded public places and marketplaces, to ensure that celebrations take place peacefully.

Authorities have also urged people to avoid spreading rumours or misinformation on social media and to report any suspicious activity to local officials immediately. Community leaders involved in peace meetings expressed confidence that the festival would be celebrated in a calm and harmonious atmosphere across the region.
