US President Donald Trump said discussions between the involved parties were moving in a positive direction. He maintained that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons and indicated that existing American restrictions linked to the regional conflict would continue until a formal agreement is achieved.
Talks Continue Amid Regional Tensions
The latest developments come after nearly three months of heightened confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The unrest had severely affected commercial shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, while also creating uncertainty in international financial markets.

During a joint media interaction in New Delhi alongside India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that important progress had been achieved in recent negotiations.
Rubio stated that the past two days had seen meaningful movement toward a framework that could help normalise conditions in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that there was optimism within diplomatic circles that positive developments could emerge soon.
The US administration has consistently maintained that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains its primary strategic objective. Rubio repeated that position publicly, saying Washington’s long-term goal is to ensure Tehran does not acquire nuclear military capability.
Reports Point to Temporary Ceasefire Plan
Several international media organisations, including Axios, CNN and The New York Times, reported that negotiators are working on a proposed 60-day ceasefire arrangement. According to these reports, the temporary understanding would allow shipping traffic to resume through the Strait of Hormuz and create space for wider talks concerning Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
The reports suggested that discussions are focused on reducing immediate military tensions while opening the door for longer-term diplomatic engagement between the parties involved.
Iran Maintains Position on Nuclear Rights
Despite signs of progress, clear differences remain between Washington and Tehran on crucial issues, especially uranium enrichment and nuclear development rights.
The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi reiterated that Iran considers the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology to be its legitimate right under international law. Officials stressed that the country would not surrender what it described as a lawful entitlement.
Iranian state media also questioned claims that the Strait of Hormuz would be completely reopened under the proposed arrangement, indicating that some details of the negotiations are still under dispute.

In a separate development linked to the diplomatic event in Delhi, President Trump made an unexpected virtual appearance during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
Addressing the gathering through a live video link, Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as a close personal friend. He also said relations between India and the United States had reached a stronger level than ever before.
The American President referred to himself as a strong admirer of the Indian prime minister and highlighted growing cooperation between the two nations on strategic and economic matters.
