DefenseDrills – The first edition of Exercise PRAGATI 2026 is progressing actively at Umroi in Meghalaya, where more than 400 military personnel from 12 friendly countries have gathered to improve defence coordination and strengthen regional cooperation. The multinational exercise, which began on May 20, is focused on enhancing operational readiness and encouraging stronger military partnerships among participating nations.

Combined Training Builds Operational Coordination

The ongoing exercise has created an opportunity for participating armies to work closely in a multinational setting while exchanging tactical knowledge and operational experience. One of the major highlights of the programme has been the formation of integrated teams consisting of soldiers from all participating countries. These mixed groups have been carrying out joint activities and learning to operate together in diverse conditions.

During the past several days, troops have trained extensively in semi-mountainous and dense jungle environments. The drills have included rock climbing techniques, ambush and counter-ambush operations, slithering exercises, jungle lane firing practice, and simulated bus intervention operations. Military officials stated that these activities are aimed at improving combat preparedness, coordination skills, and confidence during complex missions.

Marksmanship Competitions Enhance Professional Skills

As part of the exercise schedule, participants have also taken part in sniper shooting and AK-203 rifle firing competitions. These events were designed to sharpen accuracy, improve weapon-handling capabilities, and encourage healthy professional competition among the soldiers. Defence sources noted that such activities help troops understand each other’s tactical approaches while promoting mutual respect and operational compatibility.

The exercise has also provided a platform for exchanging best practices in modern military operations. Through collaborative training, soldiers from different nations are gaining practical exposure to multinational operational environments, which is considered essential for future regional security cooperation.

Sports Activities Promote Camaraderie Among Troops

Apart from combat-oriented training, the exercise has placed equal importance on strengthening interpersonal ties among the participating forces. Friendly sports competitions, including basketball, volleyball, and tug of war, have been organised to encourage teamwork and improve interaction between military personnel from different countries.

Officials involved in the event said that such informal engagements help build trust and understanding beyond the training ground. Soldiers participating in the games displayed strong enthusiasm and sportsmanship, reinforcing the spirit of unity that military partnerships often rely upon during joint operations and humanitarian missions.

Exercise PRAGATI 2026 is expected to continue contributing to stronger defence cooperation and long-term strategic understanding among regional partner nations. Military observers believe the initiative reflects growing efforts toward maintaining stability and collective preparedness in the region.

Indian Army Conducts Yoga Session in Arunachal Pradesh

In a separate development, the Indian Army organised a special yoga programme at Aalo in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district on May 23 under the Spear Corps initiative. The event formed part of the month-long activities being conducted ahead of International Yoga Day 2026.

The yoga session saw active participation from Army personnel, school students, and young athletes involved in the Hangpan Dada Memorial Football and Volleyball Tournament. Trainers introduced participants to simple yoga postures, breathing exercises, body alignment techniques, and methods to improve mental focus and overall well-being.

Focus on Health, Discipline and Youth Engagement

Army officials highlighted the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental balance, and personal discipline. The programme also aimed to spread awareness about healthy lifestyle practices among young participants and local communities.

The event further encouraged interaction between soldiers and students, creating a positive platform for youth engagement. Participants appreciated the initiative, noting that such programmes help promote confidence, positivity, and community bonding while encouraging healthier daily routines.
