TrafficAccident – A tragic road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh claimed the life of a bus driver and left several passengers injured during the early hours of Friday after a collision involving a dumper truck led to a fire inside the vehicle.

Collision Reported Near Matsena Area
According to local police officials, the incident took place under the Matsena police station limits in Firozabad district at around 2 am. Authorities said a dumper truck reportedly lost control after hitting a road divider and overturned on the expressway. Moments later, a passenger bus travelling behind the truck crashed into the overturned vehicle.
The impact of the collision triggered a fire in the bus, creating panic among passengers travelling from Kanpur to Gurgaon. Emergency teams and local police quickly reached the spot and began rescue operations.
Bus Driver Dies in Incident
Officials confirmed that the deceased was identified as Shambhu, a resident of Kanpur, who was driving the bus at the time of the accident. Police stated that he suffered fatal injuries during the collision and could not be saved.
Firozabad SP City Ravi Shankar Prasad said the conductor and several passengers sustained injuries, although most of them were reported to be out of danger after receiving medical attention.
He added that legal procedures related to the accident are currently underway and authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the crash.
Several Injured Shifted to Hospital
Doctors at Shikohabad Government Hospital said injured passengers started arriving at the medical facility around 2:45 am. A total of 15 injured individuals were brought for treatment following the accident.
Medical officials stated that nearly ten passengers with serious injuries were referred to higher medical centres for advanced care. Among them, the bus conductor suffered severe burn injuries and remains in critical condition.
Five passengers who received minor injuries were treated with first aid and later discharged from the hospital.
Rescue Teams Responded Quickly
Police and rescue personnel worked through the night to remove damaged vehicles and assist stranded passengers. Witnesses at the scene said flames spread rapidly after the bus rammed into the overturned truck, making rescue efforts challenging during the initial moments.
Authorities managed to control the fire and clear the affected section of the expressway to restore traffic movement. Officials also ensured injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals without delay.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that caused the accident. Initial findings suggest the overturned dumper truck became a major obstruction on the highway before the bus collided with it.
Officials are also expected to examine whether visibility conditions, vehicle speed, or mechanical failure contributed to the crash. Further details regarding the injured passengers and the condition of the bus conductor are awaited.
The accident has once again highlighted concerns regarding highway safety and nighttime travel on busy expressways across the state.
