CrimeCase – A tragic incident in northwest Delhi ended in the death of a man who allegedly set himself on fire outside his wife’s residence following an ongoing marital disagreement, according to police officials.
The incident occurred in the Jahangirpuri area on Monday evening. Police identified the deceased as Deepansh Chaudhary, who was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital after suffering severe burn injuries. Authorities confirmed that he later died while receiving treatment.
Police Probe Ongoing After Fatal Incident
Investigators said the couple had been facing serious marital issues for some time. Officials revealed that earlier complaints related to domestic disputes had already been submitted to the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell before the latest incident took place.
According to preliminary findings, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple on the day of the incident. Police stated that the man allegedly threatened to take his own life during the confrontation. He later arrived outside his wife’s residence and is suspected to have used kerosene to set himself on fire.
Authorities are continuing to examine the sequence of events and statements provided by both families as part of the investigation.
Wife Accuses Husband of Domestic Abuse
The woman alleged that she had experienced repeated physical abuse since their marriage. She claimed that an earlier dispute had taken place on May 12, during which police were called to intervene.
She told investigators that her husband allegedly fled the location before officers arrived and did not return afterward. According to her statement, he later attempted to apologise and reconcile, but she refused to resume the relationship due to the repeated conflicts.
The woman also informed police that the couple had first connected through a matrimonial website before getting married on April 2 this year. She stated that her husband had previously lived in Pune before relocating to Delhi after the marriage.
Allegations of Forced Confrontation Before Incident
The woman further claimed that Chaudhary contacted her on Monday and told her he wanted to return some of her belongings. However, she alleged that when they met, he attempted to pressure her into accompanying him.
She also accused him of taking away her mobile phone after she refused to go with him. According to her statement, she later filed an online police complaint regarding the alleged theft of the phone.
Police officials said they are reviewing all related complaints and statements submitted by the woman as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Residents Recount Disturbing Scene
People living nearby described hearing loud screams moments before discovering the man lying on the street with severe burn injuries. Residents said panic spread quickly through the neighbourhood after the incident unfolded.
The woman also recalled hearing cries outside shortly after the confrontation. She stated that those inside the house were frightened and did not immediately step outside after witnessing the situation from above.
Emergency services later shifted the injured man to the hospital, where doctors attempted treatment before confirming his death.
Authorities Examining Earlier Complaints
Police officials are now examining earlier domestic violence allegations and other complaints linked to the couple’s relationship. Officers said statements from relatives and local residents are also being recorded to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
No arrests have been reported so far, and officials indicated that further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and medical reports.
