Officials familiar with the development stated that the decision was executed without compromising the security standards required under the Special Protection Group (SPG) framework. While the number of vehicles accompanying the Prime Minister has been lowered, all essential safety protocols remain fully operational.

The development follows Modi’s recent remarks at a BJP rally in Hyderabad, Telangana, where he urged citizens to adopt austerity measures in daily life. During the speech, he highlighted the importance of reducing petrol and diesel consumption, especially at a time when international uncertainties continue to impact energy markets.
Referring to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Prime Minister called for practical steps that could help conserve foreign exchange reserves and lower fuel dependency. He encouraged people living in cities to make greater use of metro rail services and public transportation whenever possible.
Focus on Sustainable and Cost-Effective Practices
Along with promoting public transport, Modi also suggested carpooling and wider adoption of electric vehicles to reduce fuel usage. He further advised businesses and logistics operators to increase the use of railway services for parcel transportation as a more efficient alternative to road movement.
In addition, the Prime Minister recommended work-from-home arrangements where feasible, stating that reduced commuting could contribute to lower fuel demand and ease pressure on transportation systems.
