West Bengal Politics – Akhilesh Yadav Condemns Alleged Attack on Mahua Moitra
West Bengal Politics – Political tensions in West Bengal drew fresh attention on Thursday after Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticised the alleged egg-throwing incident involving Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in Nadia district. Yadav described the episode as unacceptable and called for prompt attention from constitutional authorities.

Moitra Protest Incident in Nadia –
The controversy followed an incident on Wednesday in Palashi, located in the Kaliganj area of Nadia. Moitra had travelled there to attend a Trinamool Congress meeting at the home of party MLA Alifa Ahmed when protesters reportedly assembled outside the residence.
According to Moitra, the group raised slogans against her, including “go back” and “chor”, before allegedly throwing eggs in her direction. She claimed that those involved were connected with the Bharatiya Janata Party. No immediate response from the BJP was included in the allegations made by Moitra and other opposition leaders.
Akhilesh Yadav Seeks Institutional Response –
In a post on X, Yadav condemned the alleged incident and said the Lok Sabha Speaker and the judiciary should take notice without delay. He also shared a video featuring Moitra while reacting to the developments.
The Samajwadi Party leader alleged that the BJP was using its political influence in states governed by the party and accused it of contributing to a hostile political environment, particularly in West Bengal. He further claimed that the police were being drawn into political disputes.
Yadav said the country’s citizens were upset by what he described as aggressive political conduct. He argued that political rivalry should not lead to actions that create fear or disrupt public life.
Concerns Over Political Violence –
Yadav also said that BJP workers and leaders could face similar situations in states where the party does not hold power or in the future if the political situation changes. He claimed that senior leaders may have security arrangements, while grassroots workers could be more exposed to public anger.
His remarks came amid continuing political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP in West Bengal. The two parties have frequently traded allegations over violence, policing and the conduct of political workers during public events and elections.
Moitra Raises Law and Order Allegations –
After the Palashi incident, Moitra alleged that law and order in the state had worsened following the change in government. She accused the police administration of failing to act and claimed that the protest against her was part of a planned attempt to target her.
“These are not ordinary people; they are BJP workers,” Moitra alleged while speaking about the incident. Her comments added to the political dispute surrounding the protest and the alleged egg-throwing.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over political protests and confrontations involving elected representatives. While opposition leaders have demanded accountability, the matter is likely to remain part of the wider political debate in West Bengal in the coming days.
