Diplomacy – India and UAE Expand Strategic Partnership With Fresh Initiatives
Diplomacy – India and the United Arab Emirates have taken further steps to strengthen their long-standing strategic relationship following high-level discussions held during Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s official visit to the UAE. The meetings focused on expanding cooperation across several sectors and reviewing progress made under earlier bilateral agreements.

Leaders Review Progress Across Key Sectors
During the visit, Vikram Misri met UAE Minister of State and Special Envoy for India Reem Al Hashimy for extensive talks on the growing partnership between the two nations. According to details shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides examined developments in trade, investment, connectivity, energy, defence, financial technology, healthcare, education, and cultural exchanges.
Officials from both countries expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved after UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India in January 2026. They also reviewed outcomes linked to the February 2026 India visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The discussions reflected the growing importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi, which has steadily expanded in recent years through economic cooperation and diplomatic engagement.
Focus on Trade, Investment and Connectivity
The review meetings also built upon decisions made during the 16th Joint Commission Meeting and the fifth Strategic Dialogue held in December 2025. Those sessions were jointly led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Officials said both countries are now looking at additional measures to deepen cooperation in sectors considered vital for long-term growth. Trade and investment remained among the central areas of focus, especially as the two countries continue to strengthen commercial ties through infrastructure, logistics, and digital finance initiatives.
Energy security and emerging technology partnerships also featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides acknowledged the importance of collaboration in fintech and innovation-driven sectors as part of efforts to diversify economic engagement.
Regional and Global Issues Discussed
Apart from bilateral cooperation, the two delegations exchanged views on developments in West Asia and other international matters of shared concern. The conversations highlighted continued coordination between India and the UAE on regional stability and global diplomatic issues.
The meeting underlined the increasing strategic alignment between the two nations as they continue to engage on geopolitical and economic matters affecting the wider region.
India-France-UAE Trilateral Partnership Advances
As part of his UAE visit, Foreign Secretary Misri also participated in a trilateral meeting involving India, France, and the UAE. The session included UAE Minister Reem Al Hashimy and Martin Briens, Secretary General of France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation under the trilateral framework. Officials agreed on a structured roadmap with specific timelines aimed at accelerating joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
The India-France-UAE partnership has gained attention in recent years as the three nations explore cooperation in strategic sectors including connectivity, energy, technology, and security. The latest discussions are expected to further strengthen coordination among the partners in the coming months.
