Accident – Five Killed After SUV Collides With Trailer in Mau District
Accident – A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district claimed five lives in the early hours of Saturday, April 25, after a speeding sport utility vehicle lost control and crashed into a trailer coming from the opposite direction. The incident occurred around 3 am on a busy highway stretch, leaving no survivors inside the vehicle, including a pet dog that was also travelling with the passengers.

Crash Occurred After Vehicle Lost Control
According to initial reports, the SUV, identified as a Scorpio, was moving at high speed when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle veered across the road divider and entered the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming trailer. The impact was extremely severe, leading to the immediate death of all five occupants.
Local residents were among the first to reach the accident site after hearing the loud crash. Emergency services were soon alerted, and police teams arrived shortly after to secure the area and begin preliminary rescue efforts.
Victims Were Returning From Wedding
Officials confirmed that the victims were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Ranchi. The accident took place along the Varanasi–Gorakhpur highway, a route known for heavy vehicular movement, especially during nighttime hours.
Authorities believe the vehicle may have gone out of control moments before the collision, although the exact sequence of events is still being examined.
Identities of the Deceased Confirmed
Police have identified the deceased as Vinay Srivastava, 53, his wife Archana Srivastava, 48, and their son Kritarth Srivastava, 27, all residents of Gorakhpur. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination as part of standard legal procedures.
Trailer Driver Missing After Incident
Authorities stated that the driver of the trailer fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police teams have launched a search operation to locate and question him. Investigators are also reviewing available evidence to understand the circumstances leading up to the crash.
A senior police official, Jitendra Singh, indicated that preliminary findings suggest the possibility of driver fatigue. It is suspected that the SUV driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control. However, officials emphasized that a detailed investigation is still ongoing and conclusions will be drawn only after thorough examination.
Investigation Continues
Police have begun collecting statements from witnesses and are examining the accident site for further clues. Traffic conditions, vehicle speed, and driver alertness are among the factors being analyzed.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, particularly during late-night travel on highways. Authorities continue to urge drivers to remain cautious, avoid fatigue, and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.
